Job summary

Barnes & Noble Education seeks a Senior Staff Accountant, Corporate Accounting, to perform complex accounting tasks supporting the integrity of the financial reporting and general ledger. You will partner across Finance to resolve accounting matters, drive process improvements, and support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closes.

This role requires 5+ years in corporate accounting, strong U.S. GAAP knowledge, and advanced Excel with ERP experience (PeopleSoft preferred).

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting required and 5+ years in corporate accounting or public accounting.
• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and internal controls.
• Experience with complex journal entries, reconciliations, and monthly close.
• Advanced Excel and ERP experience, preferably PeopleSoft.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, detail-oriented, and able to prioritize multiple deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, review, and record complex journal entries with supporting documentation.
• Own assigned GL accounts and ensure accurate, timely transactions.
• Lead monthly, quarterly, and year-end close activities.
• Prepare schedules and financial reporting deliverables for management and auditors.
• Research accounting issues and apply proper GAAP guidance.
• Improve processes and strengthen internal controls across the team.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve accounting matters.
• Support internal and external audits with documentation and inquiries.
• Participate in new accounting standards implementations and system enhancements.
• Share expertise and promote best practices within the team.
