Become a part of Fortegra, an industry leader for more than 45 years helping businesses and individuals manage risk by creating and delivering reliable insurance risk management solutions. You will join the Corporate Accounting team and play a pivotal role in preparing and analyzing operating results to provide key insights to accounting and business leaders.

Fortegra operates in a highly complex insurance and accounting environment. In this role, you will gain exposure to a myriad of business arrangements and accounting transactions — making this an excellent opportunity to strengthen and hone a strong accounting and reporting skillset with direct visibility to senior leadership.

This role is based at our corporate headquarters in Jacksonville, Florida, with minimal travel required. You will work at the corporate accounting level, interacting with all elements of insurance financial management — including investments, risk management, and tax.

Position Summary

The Senior Corporate Accountant is a high-impact role responsible for driving accuracy and integrity across the company's general ledger. This position owns the full cycle of account reconciliations, resolution of complex reconciling items, and monthly journal entry preparation. The ideal candidate brings a strong technical accounting foundation, honed through public accounting or a similarly rigorous environment, and is ready to apply that expertise in a dynamic corporate setting. The role also contributes to broader accounting and reporting functions, Unclaimed Property compliance, and special projects as business needs evolve.

Primary Job Functions

Support ad hoc accounting, financial reporting, and special project needs as directed. Respond audit requests in a timely, organized, and thorough manner.

  • Prepare and post journal entries with a high degree of accuracy and in accordance with close deadlines.
  • Own cash and non-cash balance sheet reconciliations as assigned, including thorough identification and resolution of reconciling items.
  • Lead and execute month-end close activities, including accruals, allocations, and other assigned processes.
  • Analyze operating results and surface meaningful insights to accounting and business leaders.
  • Proactively identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and internal controls.
  • C ollaborate cross-functionally with teams including investments, risk management, and tax.
  • Own balance sheet reconciliations as assigned, including thorough identification and resolution of reconciling items.

The duties and responsibilities listed above describe the general nature and level of work performed by individuals in this role. They are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities that an incumbent may be expected or asked to perform.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum 4+ years of progressive experience in accounting or an audit function; experience within a Big Four, national, or mid-tier public accounting firm is strongly preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • CPA designation or CPA eligible preferred.

This role is ideally suited for a candidate who has built a rigorous technical accounting foundation, particularly those who have transitioned or are looking to transition from public accounting into a senior corporate accounting role. Candidates with Big Four or national/mid-tier firm backgrounds will find the complexity of Fortegra's multi-line insurance environment to be a natural and rewarding next step.

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including complex formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis.
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge with the ability to research and apply U.S. GAAP guidance.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to present financial information clearly to both accounting and non-accounting stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality work within tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Self-driven and analytical, with the ability to work independently and exercise sound professional judgment.
  • High attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy and continuous improvement.
  • Experience with Oracle EBS General Ledger and/or Oracle Analytics is a plus.
  • Experience with BlackLine reconciliation software is a plus.
  • Experience with DFIN ActiveDisclosure is a plus.
