Job summary

Albireo Energy is seeking a Senior HVAC Controls Engineer to lead software design, programming and commissioning of large HVAC and utility systems in the Greater Boston area. The role involves on-site support and collaboration with software engineers, project managers, and technicians.

You will program sequences, review specs, configure networks, and drive projects from design through startup, with travel to construction sites as needed.

Qualifications

• Engineering degree from accredited college or university, or offset by 5–7 years of industry experience.
• Experience with building automation / PLC programming (function block preferred) or other programming languages (e.g. Python, SQL).
• Strong computer skills: Word, Excel, Visio.

Responsibilities

• Review project specifications, drawings and documents to understand project intent.
• Break down scope of work and communicate to Project/Engineering Manager for scheduling.
• Attend/receive meeting minutes from software and graphics review meetings with customers.
• Create and route RFIs to Systems Engineer, Project Manager, and Engineering Manager.
• Follow sequence of operations and develop commissioning documents.
• Startup and commissioning of large systems (AHUs, chillers) including network setup.
• Assist Account Managers with estimating, scope development and basic design.
• Program HVAC/utility sequences and perform installation/commissioning.
• Configure IP/RS-485 networks; BACnet MSTP/IP preferred; SQL for alarming/reporting.

Summary

In addition to the responsibilities listed below, the Senior HVAC Controls Engineer is responsible for the overall success of software design, program creation, and the implementation of procedures and standards used in the programming of controls projects. The role will primarily involve programming of HVAC and utilities plant sequences using building automation controllers and languages but also includes remote or on-site support of construction/service techs as well as other software engineers. This role will be an onsite position that will support projects in person in the Greater Boston Area.

Responsibilities

• A key member of the Albireo team, the Senior HVAC Controls Engineer will be responsible for:
• Review of project specifications, drawings, and project-specific documents to understand project intent
• Breakdown scope of work into manageable segments and communicate to Project Manager / Engineering Manager for scheduling
• Attending and/or receiving meeting minutes from software and graphics review meetings with customers (including customer representatives, general contractors, or commissioning agents)
• Creating and routing project programming specific "Request for Information" (RFI) documentation to Systems Engineer, Project Manager, and Engineering Manager
• Following sequence of operations as required by project documents and develop engineered sequence of operations and commissioning documents, utilizing established standards
• Startup and commissioning of large systems, such as AHUs, chiller plants, or other utilities systems. Includes installation/configuration of workstations, servers, and network
• Assisting Account Managers with Project Estimating, scope development, and fundamental design for turnkey projects
• Software programming of HVAC/utilities sequence of operations, installation, and commissioning
• Design / Configure / Troubleshoot IP and/or RS-485 networks. Experience with BACnet MSTP and BACnet IP networks preferred
• Configuration of alarming and reporting of automation systems. SQL experience a plus

Requirements

• Siemens TIA and Tridium Niagara programming experience strongly preferred
• Engineering degree from accredited college or university. Degree can be offset by 5-7 years of industry experience
• Strong computer skills required, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Visio
• Experience and interest in electrical, computer science, IT, and controls is ideal
• Experience with building automation / PLC programming (function block preferred) or other programming languages (e.g. Python, SQL, etc.)
• Ability to travel to and work on construction sites for commissioning/startup
• Respond to and solve customer issues to completion
• Ability to take responsibility for and see a programming project to completion from initial design through commissioning
• Effective interpersonal skills to represent the company to customers and other outside contacts in an ethical and professional manner

Salary Range DOE: $105,000-$148,000yrly
