Job summary

Albireo Energy, LLC is seeking a Senior HVAC Controls Engineer to lead programming of HVAC and utilities sequences, and to provide on-site or remote support for projects in the Greater Boston area. The role emphasizes software design, standards, and collaboration with customers and engineers.

Responsibilities span reviewing specs, breaking down scope, and delivering complete sequences, commissioning, and networking tasks. Travel for on-site startup is required.

Qualifications

• Siemens TIA and Tridium Niagara programming experience strongly preferred.
• Engineering degree from accredited college or university; degree can be offset by 5-7 years of experience.
• Strong computer skills including Word, Excel, and Visio.
• Experience and interest in electrical, computer science, IT, and controls is ideal.
• Experience with building automation / PLC programming (function block preferred) or other programming languages (e.g., Python, SQL).
• Ability to travel to and work on construction sites for commissioning/startup.

Responsibilities

• Break down scope into segments and communicate to PM/Engineering Manager for scheduling.
• Attend meetings with customers and stakeholders; relay minutes and actions.
• Create and route RFI documentation to Systems Engineer and PM.
• Follow sequence of operations and develop engineered sequences and commissioning documents.
• Startup and commissioning of large systems (AHUs, chiller plants, etc.).
• Assist Account Managers with project estimating and scope development.
• Software programming of HVAC/utilities sequence of operations, installation, and commissioning.
• Design/configure/troubleshoot IP/RS-485 networks; BACnet MSTP/IP preferred.
• Configure alarming and reporting; SQL experience a plus.
• Respond to and solve customer issues to completion.
• Drive programming projects from design through commissioning with accountability.
• Represent the company professionally to customers and external contacts.

Description Summary

In addition to the responsibilities listed below, the Senior HVAC Controls Engineer is responsible for the overall success of software design, program creation, and the implementation of procedures and standards used in the programming of controls projects. The role will primarily involve programming of HVAC and utilities plant sequences using building automation controllers and languages but also includes remote or on-site support of construction/service techs as well as other software engineers. This role will be an onsite position that will support projects in person in the Greater Boston Area.

Responsibilities

• Review of project specifications, drawings, and project-specific documents to understand project intent.


• Breakdown scope of work into manageable segments and communicate to Project Manager / Engineering Manager for scheduling.


• Attending and/or receiving meeting minutes from software and graphics review meetings with customers (including customer representatives, general contractors, or commissioning agents).


• Creating and routing project programming specific \"Request for Information\" (RFI) documentation to Systems Engineer, Project Manager, and Engineering Manager.


• Following sequence of operations as required by project documents and develop engineered sequence of operations and commissioning documents, utilizing established standards.


• Startup and commissioning of large systems, such as AHUs, chiller plants, or other utilities systems. Includes installation/configuration of workstations, servers, and network.


• Assisting Account Managers with Project Estimating, scope development, and fundamental design for turnkey projects.


• Software programming of HVAC/utilities sequence of operations, installation, and commissioning.


• Design / Configure / Troubleshoot IP and/or RS-485 networks. Experience with BACnet MSTP and BACnet IP networks preferred.


• Configuration of alarming and reporting of automation systems. SQL experience a plus.


• Respond to and solve customer issues to completion.


• Ability to take responsibility for and see a programming project to completion from initial design through commissioning.


• Effective interpersonal skills to represent the company to customers and other outside contacts in an ethical and professional manner.
