Job summary

Fluidstack is building civilization-scale infrastructure for AI in Austin, TX. We seek an engineering leader to own the control architecture for our high-power thermofluids systems, including compressors, motors, turbines, and loop controls.

You will implement safe, robust interlocks, enable model-based development, and lead hardware-in-the-loop validation before production deployment. The role emphasizes rapid iteration, end-to-end responsibility, and collaboration with site BMS integration.

Qualifications

• Experience writing control logic for rotating machinery and hands-on startup.
• Experience designing interlocks with first-principles justification.
• Experience hardware-in-the-loop testing to catch issues before commissioning.
• Experience tuning control loops on live machines and reconciling model vs. plant.
• Ability to hand over control systems with usable documentation for night shifts.

Responsibilities

• Own the machine control architecture across the compressor, motor drive, expansion turbine and loop around them.
• Write safety interlocks and fault handling for a machine whose working fluid crosses its critical point.
• Deliver capacity control through motor and turbine speed rather than throttling valves; keep valves out of the design point path.
• Validate the control system against hardware-in-the-loop before it touches the real machine; prove interlocks fire.
• Carry the controls from test cell to production chiller; integrate with site BMS and wider plant.
