Job summary

Fusion Incorporated, based in Willoughby, OH, is seeking a Senior Controls Engineer to design electrical panels, PLC, HMI and motion control systems for our automation solutions. You will develop and integrate robotics and safety programs, ensuring robust performance and customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities include leading panel designs, drafting schematics, and programming PLCs and robots across multiple projects, while collaborating with mechanical, manufacturing, and service teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering is required.
  • 5+ years of electrical engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience designing electrical panels and schematics.
  • Proficient in DraftSight or AutoCAD and SolidWorks Electrical.
  • Experience programming PLCs and robot controllers.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare engineering designs to support quoted specifications.
  • Plan and design panels and electrical schematics using DraftSight and SolidWorks Electrical.
  • Manage projects and support multiple machine designs simultaneously.
  • Source and integrate new technologies to improve efficiency of electrical design and assembly.
  • Provide instructions for assembly, operation and troubleshooting of electrical panels and PLC systems.
  • Create and debug PLC programs for Allen Bradley and Keyence; program robots (Fanuc/Epson).
  • Troubleshoot electrical panels and control systems; support field service and customers.

Position Summary:

Design and develop electrical panels, PLC, HMI and motion control systems for machines to meet customer requirements. Thorough understanding and capability of electrical assembly and troubleshooting practices is required. Develop and integrate programs for robotics, safety systems, production monitoring and user accessibility.


Essential Functions & Responsibilities:


  • Coordinate with Mechanical Project Engineer, Machine Division Manager, Assembly and Process Technicians regarding project specifications, machine process, and program considerations.

  • Prepare engineering designs to support quoted specifications.

  • Plan and design panels and electrical schematics using DraftSight and SolidWorks Electrical software.

  • Manage own projects and support designs simultaneously on multiple machine projects. Establish, monitor and control project plan and timelines.

  • Explore, find, source and integrate new technology to improve efficiency of electrical design and assembly.

  • Prepare and provide instructions for assembly, operation and troubleshooting of electrical panels and PLC control systems.

  • Create and Debug PLC programs for multiple PLC types, primarily Allen Bradley and Keyence.

  • Create and Debug programs for Fanuc and Epson Robots.

  • Troubleshoot electrical panels and overall control systems.

  • Provide technical support to the Field Service and Process Development Departments to resolve customer issues in‑house, remotely, and in customers’ facilities.

  • Occasional travel to existing or prospective customer facilities for troubleshooting and installation of machines.

  • Work with Sales, Manufacturing and others on matters of mutual concern and responsibility.

  • Maintain technical competency and remain up to date on current engineering developments and trends. Analyze developments and trends and recommend applications for improvement. Research new markets, designs and the like as assigned.

  • Develop and update standardized practices to include electrical design, machine process, component selection, component requisition, assembly and installation.

  • Seek opportunities for continuous process improvement as a commitment to the Quality Policy.

  • Adhere to and enforce prescribed safety rules and regulations.

  • Perform other duties as assigned or directed.

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, or equivalent experience.

  • 5 years of electrical engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.

  • AutoCAD or Draftsight experience in designing electrical panels and schematics.

  • Proficiency programming Allen Bradley and Keyence PLCs and HMIs

  • Proficiency programming Fanuc and/or Epson Robots and servo drives

  • Project Management and organizational skills.

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.

  • Proven analytical and problem‑solving abilities.

  • Display willingness and ability to make sound, accurate decisions.

  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, Microsoft Project, Auto CAD or DraftSight and SolidWorks Electrical.
