Job summary

Orthodox Union is seeking a Controller to lead the accounting function, manage monthly closes, financial reporting, and staff supervision. The role ensures accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with accounting standards and internal policies, while serving as a technical accounting resource across the organization.

Responsibilities include overseeing the close, financial statements, audit coordination, and cross-functional collaboration with stakeholders.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of progressively responsible accounting experience, including monthly close and financial reporting.
• Experience supervising accounting staff.
• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and internal controls.
• CPA or equivalent qualification preferred.
• Experience with NetSuite and multi-entity nonprofit environments.

Responsibilities

• Lead the monthly close process, including calendar, deliverables, issue resolution, and status communication.
• Oversee journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, allocations, reclassifications, intercompany activity, and close tasks.
• Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and supporting schedules for Board materials.
• Review balance sheet accounts for accuracy and consistency with GL and documentation.
• Manage, mentor, and develop accounting staff with backups and cross-training.
• Coordinate annual financial statement audit activities with external auditors.
• Oversee quarterly reporting for IDB and BNY, including covenant reporting.
