Job summary

Sigma Design is seeking a Control Systems Engineer III to lead design and execution of moderately complex control systems. This role interfaces directly with clients, guides junior engineers, and orchestrates the development of custom controls and vision solutions.

Responsibilities include designing to safety and regulatory standards, specifying components and BOMs, and validating systems through testing and FAT/SAT phases. Strong collaboration and documentation are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering field is required.
• 7+ years of experience integrating complex mechanical-electrical systems.
• Experience programming PLCs, safety PLCs, motion controllers, and HMIs with major brands.
• Sizing and selecting circuit protectors, wiring, sensors, and drives.
• Experience with vision systems, robotics, and integration for custom equipment.
• Proficient CAD skills in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and related tools.
• Strong knowledge of UL 508A, NFPA 79, UL61010 standards.
• Ability to collaborate across cross-functional teams and communicate effectively.

Responsibilities

• Architect, design/develop and implement custom controls and vision systems solutions.
• Program, network, commission, analyze, diagnose, and debug control systems with varied hardware.
• Specify control components and support BOM creation.
• Design control systems to UL508A, UL61010 and NFPA 79 standards.
• Assist in wiring diagrams and electrical enclosure builds.
• Support writing system specifications and operations manuals.
• Conduct FAT, SAT, on-site training, and ensure data security compliance.
• Collaborate with clients and internal teams to deliver quality results.
