Job summary

ERM is seeking a Senior Consultant, Geologist/Engineer to lead field investigations and remediation projects from Charleston, WV, with opportunities for nationwide travel. You will work with multidisciplinary teams to deliver compliant, data-driven environmental solutions and technical reports.

Requirements include a geology-related degree, 3+ years’ field experience, strong safety focus, and the ability to travel multi-week assignments. EPA/HazWoper training and driver’s license are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s in geology, hydrogeology, engineering, environmental science, or related field.
• 3+ years of environmental field experience, including field work, report writing, and safety training.
• Strong commitment to safety and adherence to Health & Safety protocols.
• Willingness and ability to perform full‑day field work while standing or walking.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; experience documenting detailed technical data.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong attention to detail with analytical, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving abilities.
• Ability to multi-task, travel for multi-week assignments, and operate with minimal supervision.
• Ability to lift at least 40 pounds.
• Driver's License Required and OSHA HAZWOPER 40-hour certification.
• This position is not eligible for immigration sponsorship.

• Deliver within established quality, budget, and schedule expectations.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct field activities, including:
  • Soil, sediment, groundwater, surface water, soil vapor, and indoor air sampling
  • Aquifer testing, drilling oversight, and soil logging
  • Soil boring and monitoring well installation
  • Well development, purging, and sampling
  • Remedial and wastewater treatment pilot tests
  • Operation and maintenance of remedial systems
• Oversee subcontractors and assist with remediation and construction management.
• Perform Phase I and II environmental assessments for property transfer support.
• Compile, evaluate, and interpret environmental data; assist with detailed technical reports.
• Prepare environmental compliance plans, permits, and remediation‑related documentation.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
• Deliver within established quality, budget, and schedule expectations.
• Communicate effectively with subcontractors, regulators, clients, and site tenants during fieldwork.

What You’ll Bring

Required

• Bachelor’s in geology, hydrogeology, engineering, environmental science, or related field. Or equivalent experience.
• 3+ years of relevant environmental experience, including field work, report writing, and safety training.
• Strong commitment to safety and adherence to Health & Safety protocols.
• Willingness and ability to perform full‑day field work while standing or walking.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; experience documenting detailed technical data.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong attention to detail with analytical, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving abilities.
• Ability to multi-task, stay flexible, travel for multi-week assignments, and operate with minimal supervision.
• Ability to lift at least 40 pounds.
• Driver's License Required: This position requires a valid driver's license and/or the ability to operate a company vehicle due to the nature of job duties, which include frequent travel to various client locations across a large geographical area.
• 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification required.
• This position is not eligible for immigration sponsorship.

Preferred

• GIT or EIT certification preferred; PG or PE a plus.
• Local candidates preferred; regional and relocation‑interested candidates also considered.
