Job summary

Expedite Talent Solutions is seeking a senior Database Administrator in Charlotte, NC (Hybrid). The role requires 12+ years of experience and hands-on expertise with Aurora PostgreSQL, MSSQL, and related tools.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of experience as a database administrator.
• MSSQL and PostgreSQL administration experience.
• Experience with large-scale, high-transaction databases.
• Strong scripting in Shell or Python.
• Excellent communication with business, technical teams and senior management.

Responsibilities

• Hands-on with Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL and Amazon RDS.
• Maintain high availability and performance of database platforms, including failover and replication lag monitoring.
• Perform daily health checks on disk, CPU, memory, and PostgreSQL logs.
• Conduct on-demand backups and schema/table-level restores.
• Identify long-running queries and provide findings to developers for optimization.
• Manage user access and basic database security tasks.
• Troubleshoot infrastructure, performance, and availability issues.
• Monitor weekend job alerts and coordinate with Compass SME as needed.
• Participate in maintenance windows and perform tuning to meet SLA.
• Handle incident and change management per SLA.

Database monitoring tools: CloudWatch, Zabbix, Dynatrace, Datadog, Fog light.

• Hands-on experience with Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL and Amazon RDS.
• Experience building and supporting large-scale, high-transaction database environments.
• Strong expertise in database performance tuning, optimization, and deep-dive analysis.
• Hands-on experience configuring, supporting, and tuning PostgreSQL databases.
• Knowledge of database backup and recovery strategies.
• Ability to write and debug Shell and Python scripts.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with business teams, technical teams, and senior management.
• Manage database platforms to ensure high availability and performance, including start, stop, restart, failover operations, and replication-lag monitoring on replica nodes.
• Perform daily health checks for disk, CPU, memory utilization and PostgreSQL logs, using AI-driven automation where applicable.
• Perform on-demand backup and restoration activities, including table- and schema-level backups.
• Identify long-running and repetitive queries, run execution plans, and share findings with the development team for further analysis.
• Perform basic user and access management.
• Troubleshoot infrastructure, performance, and availability issues.
• Provide basic query and performance support.
• Monitor weekend job alerts, troubleshoot issues, and escalte to the Compass SME as per SOP.
• Perform database refresh activities during weekends.
• Participate in planned maintenance windows and outage activities, and perform database tuning and optimization to meet SLA requirements.
• Handle incident management, change management, and service tasks in accordance with SLA requirements.
