Job summary

Madrid CFTL is looking for a Senior Consultant specializing in Building Forensics based in Clearwater, Florida. This role involves conducting forensic investigations into structural failures and preparing comprehensive reports. The successful candidate will have a minimum of 10 years of experience in the field and hold an active Florida PE license or be able to obtain one shortly after hire.

Position: Senior Consultant – Building Forensics

Ray Engineering is a dynamic structural remediation firm that specializes in restoring and strengthening structures, ensuring safety, and building resilient communities. We value respect, inclusion, and empowerment, allowing team members to excel every day.

About the Role

This role focuses on determining the cause, origin, and extent of failures, defects, and damage in residential, commercial, and multi‑family properties. It requires approximately 30% field work and 70% technical analysis, report writing, and project management. The position is open to hybrid or remote candidates located in Florida who can travel throughout Central and West Florida for site inspections, client meetings, and project‑related activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct forensic investigations involving structural failures, construction defects, moisture intrusion, settlement, vibration, and other building‑related issues.
  • Evaluate properties to determine the cause, origin, and extent of damage or failure.
  • Perform field inspections, site assessments, and documentation of existing conditions.
  • Gather photographic evidence, review construction documents, maintenance records, testing data, and historical information.
  • Analyze structural and building system performance and develop technically sound conclusions and recommendations.
  • Prepare detailed technical reports documenting findings, conclusions, repair recommendations, and remediation strategies.
  • Research and apply current and historical building codes, industry standards, and construction practices.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining quality, schedules, budgets, and client expectations.
  • Coordinate with property owners, attorneys, insurance representatives, contractors, architects, engineers, and other stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships through responsive communication and technical expertise.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior staff.
  • Assist with proposal preparation, project scoping, budgeting, and business development efforts.
  • Provide expert opinions and support litigation matters as needed.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in forensic engineering, structural investigations, construction defect evaluations, building assessments, restoration consulting, and/or related fields.
  • Active Florida Professional Engineer (PE) license in good standing required, or ability to obtain Florida licensure within one month of hire.
  • Strong knowledge of building codes, construction materials, structural systems, and industry practices.
  • Experience performing forensic investigations and preparing technical reports.
  • Excellent technical writing, communication, and client‑facing skills.
  • Experience managing projects, budgets, schedules, and client relationships.
  • Ability to mentor junior staff and provide technical leadership.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel throughout Central and West Florida as needed.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative team environment.
