Job summary

Johnson Controls in Los Angeles, CA is seeking a Construction Project Manager to lead retrofit projects within our Sustainability Infrastructure Building – Solutions & Technologies portfolio. What you will do

The Construction Project Manager is part of our Sustainability Infrastructure Building – Solutions & Technologies business with Johnson Controls. Responsible for construction management of assigned building retrofit projects, you will determine resource levels to attain schedule milestones, monitor workforce levels to ensure conformance with the construction plan, control project costs and scope creep, document and approve change orders, implement site safety and security procedures, develop and maintain relationships with customers and subcontractors, and ensure profitable execution of projects within budget and scope.

How you will do it

• Self‑performs cost estimating/review, project scheduling and construction management of assigned projects.
• Manages the profitable execution of assigned projects and ensures accuracy, on‑time delivery, billing, and budget compliance.
• Maintains profitability goals and positive cash flow.
• Understands project scope and customer expectations.
• Utilizes resource planning techniques to achieve high team productivity.
• Plans, schedules, and controls project activities.
• Applies broad knowledge of commercial/contractual complexity, deal structure, and financial acumen.
• Provides monthly reporting of project financial status and participates in area monthly project backlog reviews.
• Establishes long‑term customer and contractor relationships and influences customers.
• Develops and adheres to a Project Execution Plan for each assigned project.
• Establishes customer touch points throughout the project lifecycle to gain feedback on customer satisfaction.
• Provides leadership by demonstrating focus on exceeding customer expectations.
• Communicates project status to the Area Team and Project Delivery Manager/Director as required and provides monthly forecasts of revenue, costs, and gross margin.
• Fosters good relationships with subcontractors, internal systems, service, and lighting partners.
• Ensures compliance with provincial, local, and federal legal requirements and upholds the highest ethical standards.
• Champions and drives the JCI Safety Program for employees and subcontractors at all levels.

Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree in Construction, Civil, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or equivalent work experience, with at least five (5) years of direct project management experience in the building construction industry.
• Project management experience with HVAC, Controls/BAS, Lighting, and Renewable Energy systems is desired.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain technical material to non‑technical audiences.
• Willingness to travel as required by project assignment.
• Proficiency in project management software and financial accounting systems.
• Strong computer skills in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), Adobe/Nitro, Teams, and basic Windows environment.

Compensation & Benefits

HIRING SALARY RANGE: $107,100 - $161,100 (Salary determined by education, experience, skills, internal equity, and market data). This position includes a competitive benefits package.
