Job summary

United Rentals in the United States is seeking a Senior Construction Manager to lead complex capital projects, including major renovations, expansions, and ground-up design-build. The role requires coordinating multiple concurrent projects and delivering on time and within budget.

You will engage senior leadership, manage budgets and schedules, and mentor cross-functional teams while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance across jurisdictions. Willingness to travel 60–70% is essential.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture or related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
• 10-15 years’ related experience in commercial construction, managing projects.
• Advanced knowledge of building systems and construction processes and procedures.
• Proven management and leadership of complex projects, including ground-up build-to-suit and design-build construction.
• Strong team leadership capabilities.
• Experience with large-scale or multi-site projects, including ground-up build-to-suit and design-build construction projects.
• Background in complex delivery methods.
• Leads complex due diligence efforts by directing multidisciplinary consultants, evaluating technical reports, assessing entitlement risks, and developing mitigation strategies to support informed real estate and construction decisions.
• Demonstrates advanced knowledge of building codes, zoning regulations, stormwater regulations, fire and life safety requirements, accessibility standards, environmental regulations, and Certificate of Occupancy requirements across multiple jurisdictions.
• Proficiency with construction project management software and demonstrated ability to effectively leverage technology platforms to manage project documentation, workflows, and reporting; experience with Procore or similar systems preferred.
• Industry-related certifications.
• 60-70% Travel required throughout regions (including overnight stays).
• Extended hours during critical phases.
• Use of PPE required.

• Prepare detailed bid analyses and cost comparisons and provide strategic contractor recommendations for presentation to senior leadership.
• Oversee project budgets and financial performance.
• Lead contract negotiations and risk management.
• Manage project closeout.
• Lead and coordinate architects, engineers, consultants, contractors, and vendors.
• Mentor junior team members.
• Drive collaboration across internal and external project stakeholders to support successful execution.

The Senior Construction Manager is responsible for complex, high-value capital projects including major renovations, expansions, ground-up design-build and build-to-suit construction. Construction Managers are Owner’s representatives who focus primarily on capital projects and project-based facility improvements. What you’ll do:

Strategic Project Leadership
