Job summary

HNTB in Rocky Hill, CT is seeking a Field Inspector to lead daily inspection efforts on large, complex projects and prepare reports for contractor pay estimates. You will create sketches and data for Field Engineers and may mentor staff inspectors on site.

Requirements include a high school diploma with 9 years in construction, and relevant jurisdictional certificates. BS with 4 years in field inspection or NICET/CMIT credentials are preferred.

  • All required jurisdictional certificates and state requirements.
  • BS with 4 years of Field Inspection Experience.
  • CMIT Level 4 or NICET Level 3 with 6 years total, including 4 in Field Inspection.

Responsibilities

  • Inspects, observes, documents, and verifies work in progress to ensure compliance with schedule, contract documents and plans.
  • Advises Contractor superintendent of necessary actions to ensure conformance with plan, specs, and contract.
  • Utilizes inspection practices to perform calculations, constructability reviews, and measurements.
  • Reviews Inspector's daily report of assigned work activities and contractor resources.
  • Performs on-site material testing and produces as-constructed sketches.
  • May lead daily assignments, mentor, and train employees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

This opportunity entails being responsible for daily inspection efforts on multiple complex, large, and /or diverse projects. Prepares daily and weekly reports on work accomplished by contractor and reviews periodical pay estimates with contractor for accuracy. Prepares sketches and assembles data for Field Engineer to utilize when making changes to the project. May participate in the mentoring, development, and evaluation of staff inspectors.

What You'll Do
  • Inspects, observes, documents, and verifies work in progress by the construction contractor to ensure compliance with project schedule, contract documents and plans. Confirms procedures are followed and material used conforms to specifications.
  • Advises Contractor superintendent of necessary actions to ensure conformance with plan, specs, and contract. Reviews and resolves quantity disputes with contractor.
  • Utilizes engineering inspection practices to perform sophisticated and complicated mathematical calculations, constructability and biddability reviews, and measurements of completed work to date.
  • Reviews Inspector's daily report of assigned work activities, contactor labor and equipment, quantity of material received and verified.
  • Performs on-site material testing and produces as-constructed sketches
  • May lead daily assignments, mentor, and train employees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
What You'll Need
  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent and 9 years of construction related experience.
  • All required jurisdictional certificates and state requirements.
What You'll Bring

What We Prefer
  • BS with 4 years of Field Inspection Experience
  • CMIT Level 4 or NICET Level 3 with 6 years of overall experience including 4 in Field Inspection.

The approximate pay range for Connecticut is $44.09 - $68.96. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position based on all selected locations within the state at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be dependent on factors, including but not limited to, the individual’s qualifications, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities as well as physical work location within the state.
