Job summary

Mortenson Construction is seeking a Senior Estimator I for our Solar group. Based at the MN headquarters, you will lead estimating on large, complex projects, coordinating across PV engineering, design, and leadership.

Expect travel for project site visits quarterly and a role that demands confidentiality and professional execution. The position requires a degree in CM or engineering or equivalent experience, with extensive estimating background.

Qualifications

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering or similar or equivalent experience.
• Nine years of construction industry experience preferred, including renewables/utilities.
• Six years of construction estimating experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead estimating efforts on large and complex projects.
• Provide conceptual, detailed, self-perform estimates, and cost models.
• Organize and plan for estimate preparation, pricing, scheduling, and submission.
• Determine trade partners and final estimate pricing.
• Assign work to estimating team and ensure accurate information.
• Conduct quantity surveys, cost estimates, and review trade partner proposals.
• Research tax laws, collective bargaining agreements, and permits.
• Write and submit RFIs; maintain communication with team and leadership.
• Ensure understanding of project scope and updates among team and partners.
• Research historical data for current applications; assist scheduling.
• Lead, train, mentor, and evaluate estimators.

Job description

Mortenson is currently seeking an experienced Senior Estimator I to join our Solar group with the ability to interact with a variety of staff at all levels in an ever-changing environment, remaining flexible, resourceful, proactive, and efficient with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality. The Senior Estimator will provide leadership, coordination, and final preparation of full estimates on large and complex work projects.

Location: MN- Headquarters (onsite)

Travel: Quarterly project site visits

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead estimating efforts on large and complex projects
• Provide conceptual, detailed, self-perform work estimates, and cost models
• Organize, research, and strategically plan for estimate preparation, pricing, scheduling, and submission
• Determine trade partners for bidding process and final estimate pricing
• Assign work to estimating team and ensure accurate information is incorporated
• Conduct quantity surveys, cost estimates, and review trade partner proposals
• Research tax laws, collective bargaining agreements, and permits
• Write and submit Requests for Information
• Maintain regular communication with the estimating team, design phase, PV engineering and leadership
• Ensure understanding of project scope and updates among team members and trade partners
• Research and analyze historical project data for current applications
• Assist in project scheduling
• Lead, train, mentor, and manage estimators, including periodic feedback and performance evaluations

QUALIFICATIONS

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering or similar or equivalent experience
• Minimum nine years construction industry experience (preferred experience in renewables, utilities, electrical contracting, large construction)
• Six years construction estimating experience preferred
• Organized and detailed with proven ability to fulfill all responsibilities for multiple, complex projects
• Proven positive and professional attitude, and strong customer service skills
• Strong teamwork orientation, initiative, communication, problem-solving, leadership skills, and possess a builder mindset
• Applicable mathematical and cost analysis skills
• Proficient with building/estimating techniques and software: Excel, ISqFt, Bid2Win, Bluebeam, Google Earth, PowerPoint
• Current driver's license

(for Non-Craft & Non-Union Craft working 25+ hours / week)

The base pay range for this role is $128,200 - $192,300. (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL - 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR - 10%, Washington, D.C. - 12.5%).

Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual's knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity. This position is eligible for Mortenson's incentive plan.
