Job summary

SIRIS LLC seeks an experienced Senior Architect/Engineer to support an EHRM upgrade at the VA Medical Center in Pittsburgh, PA. You will provide technical expertise, design review, construction coordination, and project oversight for complex healthcare construction projects, coordinating with VA staff, CORs, and contractors.

Responsibilities include design reviews, constructability assessments, schedule and budget reviews, and ensuring VA standards compliance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
  • Fifteen years of related experience can substitute formal education.
  • Six+ years as Architect/Engineer/Construction Manager in facility projects.
  • Seven+ years managing facility construction including design coordination, schedule control and budgeting.
  • Three+ years field experience in similar responsibilities.
  • Experience with healthcare, federal, or institutional projects preferred.
  • VA/DoD/GSA or federal contract familiarity is advantageous.
  • CCM, PMP, PE, or registered architect credentials are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide architectural and engineering technical support for VA EHRM construction projects.
  • Perform design reviews for submissions to verify completeness, constructability, and code compliance.
  • Conduct constructability assessments and review design revisions as requested.
  • Coordinate review comments from stakeholders and provide consolidated feedback.
  • Review schedules, budgets, and design feasibility; advise on impacts.
  • Identify constructability concerns and potential design conflicts for government stakeholders.
  • Ensure completed designs comply with VA standards and approved scopes of work.
  • Support contract documentation, including modifications and SOWs.
  • Review construction documentation, progress reports, and QA records for compliance.
  • Participate in project meetings and assist in issue resolution and risk identification.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced Senior Architect/Engineer to join our SIRIS team supporting an Electronic Health Record Management System (EHRM) upgrade project at the VA Medical Center in Pittsburgh, PA. This position will support the Program Manager, VA client staff, Contracting Officer’s Representatives (CORs), Architects/Engineers (A/Es), Construction Managers, and contractors by providing technical expertise, design review, construction coordination, and project oversight for complex healthcare construction projects.

The Senior Architect/Engineer will serve as a technical representative supporting the VA Medical Center to ensure projects are designed and executed in accordance with approved scopes of work, applicable codes, VA standards, contract requirements, schedules, and project budgets.

Who Will Succeed in This Role

This role is best suited for professionals who have experience supporting complex healthcare and federal construction projects, including:

  • Hospital renovations, infrastructure improvements, electrical systems, and mission-critical facility upgrades.
  • Electronic Health Record Management System (EHRM) projects or similar healthcare technology infrastructure initiatives.
  • Data centers, telecommunications systems, IT infrastructure, server rooms, and equipment spaces.
  • Clinical and administrative healthcare renovations within operational facilities.
  • Projects requiring coordination between healthcare staff, design teams, contractors, and Government representatives.
  • Successful candidates will also have:
  • Both design and construction experience (required).
  • Medical facility experience (highly preferred).
  • Experience reviewing architectural and engineering documents for technical accuracy, constructability, compliance, and alignment with project requirements.
  • Experience supporting facility construction projects involving design coordination, construction oversight, scheduling, cost management, and project execution.
  • Ability to independently evaluate technical documentation, identify risks, and provide recommendations to Government stakeholders.

Each candidate shall provide three examples of projects with similar scale and complexity to the task order scope of work where they held a comparable position.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide architectural and engineering technical support for VA EHRM construction projects.
  • Perform design reviews for concept, tentative, intermediate, pre-final, and final submissions to verify completeness, accuracy, constructability, code compliance, and alignment with approved project requirements.
  • Perform technical reviews and constructability assessments for design submissions.
  • Review re-designs and future design development efforts as requested by the Program Manager
  • Coordinate review comments from project stakeholders, including Construction Managers and A/Es, and provide consolidated feedback.
  • Review schedules, budgets, and design feasibility and provide recommendations regarding project impacts.
  • Advise program manager & stakeholders about constructability concerns, and potential design conflicts.
  • Verify completed designs comply with VA standards, approved scopes of work, applicable codes, and project requirements.
  • Support EHRM project contract documentation, including modifications, Independent Government Estimates (IGEs), Statements of Work (SOWs).
  • Review construction documentation, progress reports, testing, inspections, and quality assurance records for compliance.
  • Participate in project meetings and support issue resolution, risk identification, and project coordination.
  • Prepare professional-quality technical reports, correspondence, and program documentation.

Because work occurs within an operational healthcare environment, professionals must understand:

Patient safety requirements.

Utility shutdown coordination.

Noise and dust mitigation requirements.

Construction phasing strategies that maintain uninterrupted hospital operations.

Education & Experience
Education
  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited institution in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or related field required.
  • Educational requirements may be substituted with fifteen (15) years of directly related experience demonstrating equivalent qualifications.
Certifications
  • CCM, PMP, PE, Registered Architect, or equivalent professional credential: Preferred
Experience
  • Minimum of six (6) years of experience practicing as an Architect, Engineer, or Construction Manager.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of experience managing facility construction projects, including design coordination, construction oversight, schedule management, cost control, budgeting, and project execution.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of field experience performing similar construction management responsibilities.
  • Experience supporting healthcare, federal, or institutional construction projects preferred.
  • Experience with VA, DoD, Corps, GSA, or other federal construction programs preferred.
  • Candidates may be asked to provide examples or documentation of completed projects demonstrating relevant experience.
Additional Requirements
  • Familiarity with construction practices, quality assurance, scheduling, cost management, and change management
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment in administrative, financial, and compliance matters
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat
  • Strong written, verbal, and organizational communication skills
