Job summary

HRL Laboratories is seeking a scientist to advance metal additive manufacturing projects and grow into a Principal Investigator role. You will develop predictive models, collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, and communicate results to sponsors.

The role emphasizes continuum modeling, digital twins, and integration of ML methods with materials science. Applicants should have a PhD or postdoc background and be eligible for U.S. Government security clearance.

Qualifications

• PhD or Postdoctoral experience in relevant field.
• Strong foundation in computational modeling and AI/ML methods.
• Experience with FEA software such as ABAQUS, COMSOL, MOOSE.
• Experience with mesoscale microstructure modeling techniques.
• Proficiency in Python or C++ for data analysis and simulation workflows.
• Experience with ML libraries (Scikit-Learn, PyTorch, TensorFlow).
• Experience with SciML for surrogate model development.

Responsibilities

• Support advanced R&D programs in metal additive manufacturing.
• Plan and execute analytical and computational modeling with continuum methods and digital twin development.
• Communicate complex results through presentations and technical reports.
• Translate materials understanding into scalable additive manufacturing solutions.
• Plan and manage project components with timelines and resources.
• Collaborate with experimental teams to validate models and refine predictions.
• Present at conferences and publish in journals.
