Job summary

Syngenta Group in Durham, NC seeks a senior Computational Agronomy Scientist to lead complex agronomic initiatives from problem definition through adoption and value realization. You will drive cross-functional workstreams spanning teams and geographies, ensuring scientific integrity and scalable, reproducible solutions.

The role requires advanced expertise in agronomy, statistical methods, and AI/ML, with a track record of influencing decisions and mentoring technical colleagues in English.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Agronomy, Crop Science, or related field; PhD preferred.
• At least five years of relevant professional experience in agricultural research, digital agronomy, modeling, validation, or agronomic decision-making.
• Strong proficiency in Python and/or R, applied statistics, and AI or machine-learning methods used with agricultural data.
• Experience designing complex experimental and statistical approaches, including multi-location field studies.
• Proven ability to lead technical projects or cross-functional workstreams.
• Excellent written and verbal English communication; ability to influence without authority.

Responsibilities

• Lead multidisciplinary workstreams across teams, disciplines, and locations.
• Define objective, scope, success criteria, and scientific boundaries.
• Develop and advance scientific, analytical, modeling, and reproducibility standards.
• Ensure scientific integrity and adoption of agronomic models.
• Represent Computational Agronomy in cross-functional and external forums.
• Provide onboarding, guidance, and evidence-based feedback to contributors.
