Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Sr. Program Specialist, the Sr. Community Guide is responsible for developing meaningful community connections for people with developmental and intellectual disabilities. He/she will accomplish this by developing resources in the community in which they live where they can participate in community inclusive recreational and leisure activities of their choosing. The Sr. Community Guide will support individuals to reach their highest level of independence through community connections and activities; treat them with respect; and honor individual rights. He/she will provide the support necessary for the persons we support to achieve their desired lifestyles and increase levels of independence, productivity, and social/physical inclusion into the community. This includes developing and assisting with the person‑centered planning process, supervising the implementation of daily program activities and community experiences. Complete necessary daily documentation, as well as follow‑up documentation.

Working Days & Hours
  • Scheduled Work Days: Monday - Friday
  • Work Hours: 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM (40 hrs/wk)

What You’ll Be Doing Day‑to‑Day
  • Personal and Health Care: Assist individuals with daily living activities, provide supervision, ensure safety, support personal and healthcare needs, administer medication, respond to emergencies, and follow policies and procedures for health, safety, and documentation.
  • Communication and Documentation: Complete required documentation, participate in staff meetings and trainings, support policies and agency mission, collaborate with team members, assist in developing person‑centered goals, and manage challenging behaviors according to individual plans.
  • Preparation for Change: Plan and prepare for changes, listen to individuals’ interests, teach community success skills, provide necessary supports, and ensure individual plans reflect their preferences.
  • Community Integration and Participation: Assist individuals in planning and participating in community activities based on their interests and needs, implement person‑centered plans, seek out inclusive opportunities, ensure safety and engagement during outings, teach community living skills, conduct recreational surveys, complete necessary documentation, and follow agency policies for community outings.
  • Managerial Duties: Ensure appropriate staffing levels, align staff hours with individuals’ volunteer or work schedules, teach employment skills, serve as a liaison to outside agencies, maintain professional communication, respect individuals’ rights, and provide high‑quality on‑site job training for successful community employment or volunteer placement.
  • Program Planning and Operations: Develop and implement Person‑Centered Plans (PCP) and Behavior Plans (BPs), complete quarterly reports, engage in sensory activities, maintain confidentiality, ensure safe storage of personal items, keep program areas organized, protect supplies, foster relationships with families and professionals, train staff on BPs, and ensure accurate data collection.
  • General: Ensure daily attendance and required reports are completed on time in the Electronic Health Record System, and verify the accuracy and timely documentation of PCPs.
  • Supervision: Participate in staff interviews, provide direct supervision, complete annual performance evaluations, ensure timely completion of training and certification requirements, and train staff on Individual Plans (IPs) and Behavior Plans (BPs).
Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited College or University and one year’s experience in providing service to adults with Intellectual Disabilities or a high school diploma and at least two years’ experience working with adults with Intellectual and Developmental disabilities, with at least one of those years’ experience being supervisory experience.
  • Must be computer literate and have excellent oral and written skills.
  • Must have strong communication skills.
  • Must be dependable and reliable.
  • Must have computer skills and be able to use all required software.
  • Must have ability to problem‑solve and assist in decision‑making, including during emergencies.
  • Must maintain current status regarding assigned core competencies and other required certification acquisition within established schedule and timeline.
  • Must meet the criteria to be an approved driver for the Arc of Prince George’s County and have reliable transportation.
  • Must have the ability to work productively with individuals and other team members to develop relationships.
  • Must possess excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills and good customer service skills.
