Job summary

The New York Times in New York City seeks a Senior Editor to work directly with reporters, writers and editors to build this community through thoughtful reader participation in the comments.

You will edit posts for length, clarity and accessibility, identify opportunities for journalist participation, and help train teams on technical concepts while embedding conversations across our journalism. This is an in-office role with four days in the office weekly, with some flexibility.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of editorial experience with news organizations or media companies.
• Excellent editorial judgment and project management skills.
• Demonstrated interest in the online community ecosystem.
• Passion for The New York Times mission and commitment to innovation and growth.

Responsibilities

• Identify articles and storylines that would benefit from journalist participation in the comments and reach out to editors and reporters.
• Edit posts for length, clarity and tone to grow journalist participation in creative ways.
• Collect high quality examples of reporter participation and train the newsroom on best practices.
