About The Role

A leading energy company is seeking a self-starting Senior Communications Specialist to join its Communications, Community Relations and Marketing team. In this role, you’ll lead cross-functional collaboration to strengthen the company’s reputation and tell its story. You’ll develop communications about the company’s natural gas decarbonization work under the Minnesota Natural Gas Innovation Act (NGIA), investments in cleaner energy technologies, and programs that help customers reduce emissions from their personal energy use. The role combines strategic communications with direct community engagement, including attending local events and meetings.

What You’ll Do
  • Provide strategic communications guidance, recommend effective tactics, and evaluate results.
  • Develop and implement internal and external communications plans, including key messages, channels, timing, and measurement.
  • Create and manage a wide range of materials, such as web copy, news releases, fact sheets, articles, presentations, speeches, videos, emails, intranet content, brochures, posters, and digital signage.
  • Plan and support stakeholder and public engagement events, including preparing materials, coordinating notifications and logistics, and compiling outreach reports.
  • Staff community-event booths and attend neighborhood, homeowners association, and other community meetings.
  • Work with Regulatory, NGIA implementation, Energy Sales, Government Affairs, and other teams to maintain consistent messaging and support customer and stakeholder engagement.
  • Lead thought leadership on Minnesota decarbonization and cleaner energy technologies through materials such as white papers, LinkedIn articles, and conference presentations.
  • Support web content planning, implementation, and maintenance.
  • Collaborate with graphic designers, marketing specialists, and the social media team to develop effective communications.
  • Prepare notifications for customers and external stakeholders, including city staff, public officials, neighborhood and business associations, local newspapers, and media outlets.
  • Provide regional support for company social media accounts.
  • Identify and implement communications best practices and process improvements.
  • Serve on the emergency response communications team on a rotational basis, including occasional after-hours and weekend work. Crisis response may require extended hours at company locations.
What You’ll Bring
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or a related field.
  • Three to five or more years of communications experience.
  • Expertise in developing and executing communications strategies.
  • Exceptional writing and speaking skills, including the ability to communicate complex information clearly.
  • Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work across Communications, Marketing, Regulatory, and NGIA implementation teams.
  • Experience partnering with stakeholders to prioritize and deliver multiple or complex projects on deadline.
  • Ability to build relationships and credibility across diverse groups and move projects forward.
  • Familiarity with innovative community and stakeholder engagement strategies.
  • Ability to learn—or existing familiarity with—cleaner energy and natural gas industry terminology.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to read, interpret, use, and discuss regulatory filings and documents.
  • Experience working in a matrix organization.
  • Broad communications experience and the flexibility to adapt to evolving team and organizational needs.
  • Strong project and time-management skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently.
  • A creative, motivated self-starter who can remain composed while managing tight deadlines and shifting priorities.
