Job summary

Freeport‑McMoRan in Tucson invites a skilled communications professional to lead internal/external messaging, support site goals, and coach teams in effective communication. You will develop strategies, manage processes, and collaborate across stakeholders in a fast-paced mining environment.

Requires 7+ years of comms experience or advanced degrees, strong writing, storytelling, and project management; bilingual skills are a plus, and a focus on safety culture.

Qualifications

  • Minimum educational and experience requirements: High School Diploma/GED and 11 years of experience in communications, marketing, recruiting or related field; or Bachelor’s Degree and 7 years; or Master’s Degree and 5 years.
  • Excellent command of grammar.
  • Understanding of writing strategies and tactics.
  • Proven experience in external communications.
  • Strong storytelling and writing skills.
  • Solid verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and project‑management skills, able to handle multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.

  • Ability to understand and communicate complex technical subject matter.
  • High work ethic, able to work at a fast pace while maintaining accuracy and quick turnaround.

Responsibilities

  • Creates, empowers, and facilitates communications with employees and external groups under corporate communications guidance.
  • Plans, creates and manages internal communications to support site and department goals and initiatives.
  • Coaches and trains employees on communication effectiveness and encourages teams to set aspirational communication goals that drive business value.
  • Evolves communications to focus on operational objectives and directs teams on adopting new communication technologies and methodologies when needed.
  • Works with site teams to ensure quality communications are on track and teams understand new communication processes.
  • Performs other duties as requested.

Conditions

  • Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, manufacturing or plant environment.
  • Employees may be required to work a non‑standard schedule, including shift work 24/7 in a 365‑day operation.
  • Candidates may be required to pass a medical exam and all required training and/or testing.
What We Offer You

The estimated annual pay range for this role is $79,000–$109,000. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Additional discretionary and incentive payment may be considered based on performance.
