America First Legal (AFL) seeks an experienced communications professional to join its Communications Team as a Senior Communications Advisor. In this role, the Senior Communications Advisor will shape and execute messaging that furthers AFL’s mission and priorities.
The Senior Communications Advisor will develop strategic, cross-channel, and multi-audience communications for AFL’s initiatives and products. The Senior Communications Advisor will report to the Executive Director of External Affairs and work closely with the Communications Team, external communications vendors, and AFL Leadership.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement communications strategies, campaigns, and rollouts that advance AFL’s mission and priorities and engage key audiences.
- Ensure all external communications align with AFL’s mission and priorities and reflect the organization’s tone, voice, and standards.
- Create multi-channel communications plans for AFL’s initiatives and products, tailored to the objective, platform, and intended audience.
- Draft, edit, and oversee execution of external communications, including press releases, statements, op-eds, newsletters, and social media content.
- Manage timelines and deliverables for AFL’s initiatives and products to maximize visibility, engagement, and impact.
- Coordinate message framing, substance, and timeline with AFL attorneys, team members, and external partners to ensure effective, consistent, and cohesive messaging.
- Secure earned media by cultivating and maintaining relationships with members of the media and press and proactively pitching stories to reporters and outlets.
- Identify and capitalize on opportunities in the news cycle to highlight AFL’s work and elevate its voice.
- Track and evaluate communications performance to inform future messaging strategies.
- Assist in preparing AFL Leadership and attorneys for press interviews and media appearances.
- Opportunity for on-the-record media engagement may be available depending on experience, performance, and organizational needs.
Qualifications:
- Located in Washington, D.C.
- Minimum of 4-5 years of experience in communications, media relations, public affairs, or a related field.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with the ability to break down and translate complex legal and policy issues into clear and persuasive messaging.
- Strong project management skills, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities.
- Experience working in or with conservative legal organizations, the government, or media is strongly preferred.
- Established relationships with reporters and media outlets are a plus.
