Job summary

The Aerospace Corporation is seeking a mid-career Engineer Specialist to lead projects in RF and satellite communications, develop DSP methods, and model complex physical layers. You will work with world-class experts, mentor teams, and contribute to government programs from concept through flight operations.

Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree and 6+ years of relevant experience, plus optional senior‑level credentials.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics or related applicable technical discipline.
  • Six or more years of relevant engineering experience within increasing responsibility.
  • Industry experience with RF satellite communications systems (hardware and software, systems engineering, RF system design requirements development, integration and test, system development, or related field).
  • Knowledge of advanced communication systems and digital signal processing concepts (e.g., modulation, coding, synchronization, estimation, detection theory, waveform design, channel effects, and link performance).
  • Experience with laboratory test equipment (signal generators, spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, network analyzers) and software defined radios.
  • MATLAB, Python, and/or C/C++ programming experience.
  • The ability to obtain a current and active TS/SCI security clearance, which is issued by the US government (U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance).
  • This job typically requires 10% domestic travel. Increased travel (up to 20%) may be required to support certain customer needs.

  • Translate vague concepts into practical, well-defined, and methodical technical plans
  • Communicate results clearly in written reports and presentations
  • Anticipate customers’ needs and identify opportunities for new business

Our Communication Systems Engineering Department (CSED) within MPD specializes in the research, development, testing, and evaluation of RF and satellite communication systems for national security space programs. Through close collaboration with the United States Government, defense contractors, and other FFRDCs, we deliver impartial, technically rigorous physical-layer expertise that directly shapes solutions to the critical challenges our nation faces in maintaining space superiority.

As a mid-career engineer, you will collaborate with world-class experts within the department who have collectively earned over 60 patents in digital communications and signal processing. Together, you’ll work on the most challenging problems in space across all stages of the space lifecycle, from requirements definition through integration and flight operations. You’ll gain a balance of expert mentorship, meaningful mission work, and the flexibility to shape your career around what excites you the most!

The selected candidate will be required to work full time on-site at our facility at El Segundo, CA

What You’ll Be Doing

What You Need to be Successful – Engineering Specialist

Minimum Requirements:

In addition to the above, the minimum requirements for Senior Engineering Specialist include:
  • Ten or more yearsof relevant engineering experience with increasing responsibility (vs. six years for Engineering Specialist).
  • Proven track record technical leadership.

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in either Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related discipline from an accredited university.
  • KnowledgeofUS government programs in the areas of protected communications,navigation,signal intelligence (SIGINT), and/or electronic warfare (EW).
  • Experiencewith modeling andsimulation ofanti-jam waveforms, spread spectrum, beamforming, array processing, interference mitigation, and geolocationtechniques.
  • Familiarity with machine learning theory, practices, and tools.
  • Active TS/SCI clearance or SAP access.
