Job description

WHO WE ARE

Biofire Technologies is on a mission to give gun owners better tools for reducing preventable gun injuries and deaths, especially among children. We believe our technology, combined with a best-in-class customer experience, will define the future of firearms safety for the next generation. Our mission-driven approach has earned support from the firearm community, the tech world, and the media.

Biofire employees encompass a diverse range of talents, including world-class engineers who have designed and tested firearms, medical devices, robots, cars, satellites, rockets, and supersonic jets; expert technicians from aerospace, defense tech, special forces, and gunsmithing; and elite operators from high-tech, advanced manufacturing, and regulated industries. Whether building the product or powering the company behind it, every Biofire team member is united by an obsession with safety, reliability, and operational excellence.

OUR CULTURE

Reducing accidental firearm injuries and deaths requires original thinking and authentic collaboration, so we’re deeply invested in building a team and culture that can achieve our mission together. Team members enjoy autonomy and flexibility from day one, so expect to be immediately tasked with solving challenging problems and building new systems that work. We’ll hold you accountable for executing audacious goals, giving and receiving honest feedback, and helping your teammates succeed. You’ll receive respect, kindness, and support from every direction while you figure out how to get it all done.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As a Senior Commodity Manager, Electronics at Biofire, you will build the electronics supply base that carries our product from low-rate initial production (LRIP) into full-rate production. You will own the electronics commodity strategy across PCB fabrication, PCB assembly (SMT/THT), and component sourcing for semiconductors, passives, connectors, and cable/harness assemblies. That means qualifying suppliers, cutting cost out of the bill of materials, reducing single-source exposure, and putting commercial agreements in place that carry Biofire through its next phase of growth. We're looking for someone who combines real electronics manufacturing process knowledge with hands‑on system‑building skills, and who can influence engineering, quality, and production partners without direct authority. You'll help our supply chain team build procurement infrastructure essentially from scratch.

To succeed, you'll need to stand up a supplier qualification framework, a dual‑sourcing roadmap, and formal commercial agreements within your first six months, all without interrupting current production supply. This is a role for someone who wants to take an electronics supply base that's still in LRIP and turn it into something qualified, cost‑effective, and resilient enough to support Biofire's production ramp. If solving problems like this sounds exciting, we encourage you to apply.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Day‑to‑day responsibilities of the role will include:

  • Build a supplier qualification framework using IPC‑A‑610 / J‑STD‑001 workmanship standards, first‑article inspection, and capacity audits, calibrated by commodity type, and use it to get Biofire's Electronics supplier base qualified for full‑rate production;

  • Cut Electronics BOM cost through DFX‑driven design changes like component standardization, higher‑density or multi‑source packages, and connector consolidation, plus volume renegotiation, competitive bidding, and better commercial terms. Track it all in a supplier‑confirmed savings tracker;

  • Evaluate the full Electronics parts portfolio to find single‑source and EOL/obsolescence risk across semiconductors and passives. Build a prioritized dual‑sourcing roadmap and qualify second sources based on risk, business impact, distribution exposure, and total cost of ownership;

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for Biofire's PCBA contract manufacturer(s), managing day‑to‑day production, rework, and quality escalations;

  • Negotiate MSAs and stocking agreements with Electronics suppliers that cover pricing, payment terms, lead‑time commitments, and quality expectations, and deliver term sheets ready for leadership and legal to sign off on;

  • Own supply continuity through the production ramp. Monitor supplier and component allocation and lead‑time risk, translate production schedules into supplier demand signals, and prevent line‑down events caused by avoidable Electronics supply gaps;

  • Take an active role in DFX design reviews with Electronics engineering, using process knowledge across PCB fabrication, SMT/THT assembly, and component packaging to flag manufacturability, cost, and quality risks before parts are released for sourcing;

  • Build and maintain an Electronics supply chain roadmap aligned to Biofire's product roadmap and production ramp plan, and stay ahead of supplier capacity constraints and category‑specific market dynamics;

  • Coach buyers on supplier capability assessment, quote evaluation, and scorecard input, and help build that capability across the broader procurement team.

QUALIFICATIONS

We understand that not all applicants will possess skills that perfectly align with our job qualifications. At Biofire, we appreciate diverse experiences from various industries, and we encourage all individuals who meet the necessary qualifications to submit their applications. While having the “desired” qualifications may strengthen a candidate’s profile, we also welcome applicants with alternative experiences to apply.

  • Strong working knowledge of electronics manufacturing processes, including PCB fabrication, SMT/THT assembly, and component packaging and footprint selection. Enough to spot process‑conversion and cost‑saving opportunities, assess CM and supplier capability, and read schematics, BOMs, and PCB fabrication packages like gerbers and stack‑ups on your own

  • Proven experience building supplier qualification frameworks, including FAI, capacity and quality audits, and workmanship standards, from scratch, ideally in an environment without existing procurement infrastructure

  • Track record of driving measurable BOM cost reduction through DFX collaboration, should‑cost modeling, and commercial negotiation

  • Experience managing a mix of electronics commodities, including semiconductors, passives, connectors, and cable/harness assemblies, along with component‑level qualification, distributor and franchise relationship management, and allocation and lead‑time risk mitigation across categories

  • Experience developing dual‑sourcing strategies and managing second‑source qualification based on risk, total cost of ownership, and component and franchised‑distribution considerations

  • Skilled in negotiating commercial agreements (MSAs, stocking agreements) covering pricing, lead time, stocking, and quality terms

  • Demonstrated ability to influence engineering, quality, and production cross‑functionally without direct authority, and to coach and mentor buyers

  • Experience supporting hardware products through the transition from low‑rate to full‑rate production, ideally in a regulated or highly engineered industry (aerospace, defense, medical device, automotive, consumer electronics, or firearms)

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, supply chain, or a related field (or equivalent experience), plus several years of experience in electronics commodity management or strategic sourcing
