Job summary

Orion Placement is seeking an experienced construction estimator to own detailed cost estimation for commercial design-build projects in Fargo/ND. You will lead takeoffs, budgets, and pricing, coordinating with architects, PMs, and subcontractors to craft competitive bids from concept through completion.

Ideal candidates possess 5+ years of GC or design-build estimating, strong blueprint interpretation, and proficiency with Sage/Timberline or On-Screen Takeoff.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of commercial construction estimating experience with a general contractor or design-build firm.
• Strong ability to interpret blueprints, construction drawings, specifications, and project documentation.
• Experience preparing material takeoffs, conceptual budgets, and detailed cost estimates.
• Ability to independently manage multiple estimating projects and meet deadlines.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
• Experience with Sage/Timberline, On-Screen Takeoff, or similar estimating software is preferred.
• Experience with commercial design-build construction, subcontractor bidding, and preconstruction coordination is highly valued.

Responsibilities

• Develop detailed and competitive cost estimates for commercial construction and design-build projects.
• Prepare conceptual budgets, quantity takeoffs, and comprehensive pricing breakdowns using project plans and specifications.
• Lead subcontractor and supplier bid solicitation, evaluate proposals, and support competitive bidding strategies.
• Collaborate with architects, project managers, and construction teams throughout preconstruction and project planning.
• Analyze construction costs, materials, labor, scheduling considerations, and potential project risks.
• Support requests for proposals (RFPs), hard bids, and design-build project pursuits.
• Maintain accurate estimating databases, historical costs, and production rates to improve future estimates.
• Build positive working relationships with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal project teams.
• Identify cost-saving opportunities and contribute to continuous improvements in estimating processes.
