Vortex Doors is seeking an experienced field service technician to service commercial and industrial doors across our Washington region. You will diagnose, repair, and install door systems, springs, hinges, and access controls, while communicating clearly with customers and documenting work orders.

With 4+ years in the trade and a commitment to safety, you’ll thrive in a fast-paced environment, participate in ongoing training, and help maintain our high standards on every call.

A day in your boots

Morning starts with a stocked service vehicle, a review of the day’s work orders, and a safety tailgate. Your route might take you from a distribution center with a malfunctioning rolling steel door, to a retail storefront needing closer adjustments, then to a dock with a leveler issue. You’ll diagnose broken springs, hinges, and operators; repair electrical components; install low-voltage and access control hardware; and verify everything meets code. You’ll speak with customers, outline cost-effective options, complete precise measurements, and close out work with detailed documentation and quality checks. Back at the branch (or virtually), you’ll share insights, schedule upcoming training, and plan tomorrow’s calls.

What you’ll handle

• Install, troubleshoot, and repair commercial and industrial doors, docks, and related hardware with the right tools and methods.
• Pinpoint and fix problems like failed springs, worn hinges, misaligned tracks, faulty locks, and electrical/low-voltage issues. Welding training available if you’re eager to learn.
• Set up door hardware: locks, handles, closers, low-voltage devices, and access control systems.
• Ensure every installation complies with safety practices and applicable building codes.
• Deliver clear explanations, estimates, and recommendations that respect the customer’s budget and timeline.
• Maintain meticulous records of diagnostics, repairs, and installs; communicate findings and next steps.
• Perform final inspections to confirm work meets Vortex’s high standards.

What you bring

• 4+ years’ experience in commercial door service and a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Outstanding mechanical aptitude, troubleshooting ability, and comfort with hand/power tools.
• Knowledge of various door types, brands, and related hardware; AAADM certification is a plus.
• Accurate math skills (including fractions) and expert tape measure reading for precise installs.
• Up-to-date understanding of safety regulations and consistent adherence to safe work practices.
• Strong communication and customer relationship skills; able to convey options and be persuasive when needed.
• Organized, reliable, self-motivated, and effective in fast-paced environments.
• Physically able to lift 50+ lbs, climb ladders up to 20’, work on your knees for extended periods, and perform repetitive movements safely.
• Comfortable using computers for documentation and communication.

Schedule and field conditions

• Full-time within business hours of 7:00 AM–5:30 PM, Monday–Friday; some overtime and on-call work required.
• Fast-paced, results-driven environment with continuous training.
• Valid driver license and ability to operate a company vehicle.
• Must pass Drug test, Background check and Motor Vehicle check
