About This Job

The Senior Commercial Banking Relationship Manager provides strategic leadership in originating, developing, and expanding a portfolio of complex commercial banking relationships within the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) sector. Serving as a trusted advisor to senior executives and business owners, this role brings together industry expertise, disciplined relationship management, and enterprise-wide banking capabilities to deliver tailored financial strategies, deepen client partnerships, and generate sustainable, risk-adjusted growth. The position serves organizations across the AEC ecosystem, including adjacent industries and specialized service providers.

Essential Functions
  • Develop and execute a disciplined market strategy and business development plan aligned with the group’s growth objectives.
  • Serve as the lead strategic advisor for an assigned portfolio of complex commercial relationships, fostering executive-level engagement, client retention, and long‑term relationship value.
  • Mobilize enterprise resources and solution partners to deliver integrated capabilities across treasury management, capital markets, private banking, commercial card, and other bank solutions.
  • Provide ongoing strategic oversight of portfolio performance, proactively identifying opportunities to optimize profitability, deepen relationships, and mitigate risk.
  • Lead complex credit engagements, including transaction structuring, negotiation and pricing, collateral analysis, documentation oversight, and assessment of industry and credit risk.
  • Champion the timely resolution of client matters by coordinating product leaders and subject‑matter experts across the organization.
  • Represent the bank in targeted community, industry, and business organizations to elevate market presence and cultivate high‑value referral networks.
  • Maintain rigorous adherence to all applicable bank policies, procedures, regulations, and laws.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required
  • Proven ability to establish credibility and sustain trusted relationships with senior executives, business owners, and key stakeholders.
  • Deep knowledge of commercial banking solutions, credit policies, risk disciplines, procedures, and terminology.
  • Demonstrated ability to set priorities, allocate time effectively, and execute high‑impact relationship and market strategies.
  • Strong record of disciplined business development, consultative selling, and achievement of growth objectives.
  • Exceptional strategic judgment, analytical rigor, and problem‑solving capabilities.
  • Strong command of AEC financial statements, work‑in‑process (WIP) schedules, bonding programs, and project‑based cash flow dynamics.
  • Advanced consultative advisory and relationship‑planning capabilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence decisions, align stakeholders, and coordinate effectively across internal teams without direct authority.
  • Highly organized and self‑directed, with the executive discipline to manage multiple complex priorities and maintain attention to detail.
  • Intellectually curious, agile, and collaborative, with exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated resilience and adaptability, with the ability to lead constructively through change and model behaviors consistent with the bank’s culture and Core Values.
  • Ability to maintain a valid driver’s license and meet Commerce Bank’s driving‑record criteria; ongoing employment may be contingent upon meeting all driving requirements.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience, required. Seven to 10 years of progressively responsible commercial banking experience, including management of complex client relationships, required. Demonstrated experience advising companies within the AEC industry strongly preferred.
