Job summary

The City of Hampton's Sheriff’s Office seeks a senior-level manager to plan, direct, and evaluate correctional and law enforcement support functions. You will oversee inmate intake, housing, security operations, and staff development while ensuring compliance with DCJS standards and applicable laws.

This role demands extensive supervisory experience, firearms qualification, and budget involvement, with a strong emphasis on safety and inter-agency collaboration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college with related coursework.
• Progressively responsible supervisory/management experience in corrections or law enforcement.
• Minimum of five years of experience in law enforcement or public safety.
• Pass a background check prior to offer.
• Meet/train to DCJS requirements and be certified as Jail Manager.
• Annual firearms qualification and valid driver's license required.
• Position is safety sensitive and subject to drug/alcohol testing.

Responsibilities

• Plan, direct, and evaluate correctional and law enforcement support divisions or units.
• Ensure compliance with laws, regulations, accreditation standards, and policies.
• Oversee inmate intake, housing, classification, and security operations.
• Supervise and develop sworn and civilian staff through supervisors.
• Administer training, accreditation, firearms qualification, and development programs.
• Conduct and oversee internal investigations and policy implementation.
• Assist with budget preparation, procurement, and resources allocation.
• Serve in a command role during emergencies or critical incidents.
• Foster relationships with internal teams and external agencies.
