Job summary

Jacobs is seeking a senior Code Specialist to lead building code interpretation and regulatory compliance for Data Center projects. You will act as the authority on codes, collaborate with design and construction teams, and ensure risk mitigation and quality assurance across multifaceted endeavors.

Ideal candidates have a registered RA in at least one US jurisdiction, 15+ years of architectural experience, and a proven record in life safety, zoning, and fire code compliance.

Qualifications

• Professional degree in Architecture (B.Arch or M.Arch).
• Active RA license in at least one US jurisdiction.
• Minimum 15 years of professional architectural experience.
• Extensive hands-on expertise in building codes and regulatory compliance.
• Experience interpreting/applying building codes across multiple project types.
• Strong knowledge of life safety, accessibility, zoning, and fire code.
• Ability to interact with building officials and regulatory agencies.
• Desirable multi-state licensure; experience with peer reviews or third-party plan reviews.
• LEED, WELL, or other sustainability credentials are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary authority on building codes, zoning regulations, and life safety for Data Center projects.
• Interpret and apply local, state, and national building codes (IBC, IFC, ADA, NFPA).
• Provide code analysis and compliance strategies during planning, design, and construction.
• Review drawings and specs for code compliance with QA/QC oversight.
• Advise project teams on code-related design decisions and variances.
• Coordinate with AHJs, building officials, and plan reviewers.
• Support permitting and respond to code comments/revisions.
• Identify potential compliance risks and propose solutions.
