Job summary

IMI is seeking a Senior CNC Programmer to join our Farmington, CT facility. You will develop CNC programs for turning and milling, review drawings for feasibility, and design fixtures and tooling for new applications. Onsite role with a Monday–Friday schedule and a pay range of $50–$53 per hour.

You will mentor junior programmers, select proper tooling, and manage NC files to ensure smooth production. Strong knowledge of GD&T and multi-axis programming is essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering is a plus but not required.
  • 5+ years CNC programming experience is acceptable as an alternative to a degree.
  • Proficiency in Mastercam Milling & Turning or equivalent software; 3D modelling with Inventor or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Generate CNC programs for turning and milling of plastic and metal components.
  • Review blueprints for manufacturing feasibility and update programs with changes.
  • Select tooling and design custom tooling; create setup/inspection sheets.
  • Identify machine centers for new jobs and specify new CNC machining centers as needed.
  • Manage NC program files and ensure correct directory updates for operators.
  • Mentor and train new CNC programmers.

Role Overview :

IMI is looking to hire a Senior CNC Programmer with a focus on the CNC machining centers used in our Farmington, CT facility. Need someone capable of programming the CNC machining centers and developing custom fixturing & tooling for new applications. Ideally looking for someone capable of identifying & specifying new machines when they are required.

Work Environment : Onsite in Farmington, CT Monday-Friday

Pay range: $50 - $53/hr

Within this range, individual pay is determined based on skills, experience, and qualifications relative to the job requirements. Base pay information is aligned with market location and may be subject to prevailing wage laws, if applicable.

Job Description:

  • Generate CNC machining programs for both turning and milling applications for plastic and metal production components
  • Complete blueprint reviews on new opportunities for manufacturing feasibility
  • Update existing CNC programs when drawing changes are implemented
  • Select appropriate tooling for each machining operation.
  • Design custom tooling as required
  • Creating setup/inspection sheets for all machining applications
  • Identifying correct machine center for new jobs
  • Identify and specify new CNC Machining Centers as new opportunities arise or old equipment is obsoleted.
  • File management of NC programs for production
  • Saving programs to correct file location so operators can pull file for next run
  • Update file in the directory as needed when the file is manually updated at the machine center.
  • Act as a mentor & provide training to new-hires or developing CNC programmers.

Required Software:

  • Mastercam Milling & turning (or equivalent software)
  • Autodesk Inventor or equivalent 3D modeling software
  • Microsoft Office

Recommended Software:

  • Autodesk Fusion 360 (PLM for ECO’s)
  • JD Edwards (ERP system familiarity mostly for placing reqs.)
  • Autodesk Vault

Education:

  • Bachelors Degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering a plus not required.
  • 5+ years of CNC programming experience considered acceptable alternative

Required Skills:

  • Strong machining background
  • Experience in both turning and milling complex geometries to tight tolerances (+/- .0005)
  • Capable of reading blueprints and interpreting GD&T
  • Understanding of tool geometry and tool path design for both plastic and metal parts.
  • Understanding of fixture design, tool design, and order of machining operations

Recommended Skills:

  • Familiarity with 5-Axis machining
  • Familiarity with Fanuc, OSP Controls
  • Okuma, Fanuc, Kitamura, Matsuura, & Nakamura, Brother machining centers
  • Conversational Programming
