Job summary

Boom Supersonic is hiring a CNC Programmer to develop and verify CAM programs for 5-axis, mill-turn, and 3+2 operations on the Superpower components. You will couple with the Applications Engineer, simulate toolpaths, and produce robust setup documentation for machinists to run without additional input.

You’ll influence naming conventions, revision control, and tooling libraries as Boom builds its programming function. Strong CAM system depth and problem-solving are essential.

Job description

CNC Programmer — Make the Code Work

At Boom Supersonic, we're building Superpower — a 42-megawatt industrial gas turbine that demands some of the most precise CNC programming work in the industry. Our first Superpower prototype is being assembled now and scheduled for first fire this year. The production facility you’ll work in is being built in parallel — so that when the prototype proves out, we're ready to build the first production units without losing a beat.

This is a CAM-depth role. You'll work primarily in Hypermill, programming 5-axis simultaneous, mill-turn, and complex 3+2 operations on Superpower components. You'll make deliberate toolpath decisions, verify your work in simulation with rigor, and produce setup documentation that a machinist can run without calling you.

You'll work closely with the Applications Engineer — not as an executor but as a collaborator. When the toolpath won't deliver what the process spec intends, you'll say so and propose something that will. When a machinist tells you the program isn’t performing on the machine, you'll understand why.

We're building the programming function at Boom, which means you'll have real input into how it works — naming conventions, revision control, template structure, tooling libraries. What we're looking for:

• CNC programming experience with demonstrated CAM system depth — not just button familiarity.
• Hypermill experience is a strong differentiator. Mastercam, ESPRIT, or NX CAM experience is transferable.
• 5-axis simultaneous programming experience — or strong reasoning ability about 5-axis geometry for early-career candidates.
• Ability to read G-code output and identify post issues without running the machine.
• Documentation discipline — setup sheets that machinists can run without calling for help.

What you’ll own:

• CAM programming in Hypermill for Superpower IGT components — 5-axis, mill-turn, 3+2.
• Simulation verification — systematic review before any program reaches the machine.
• Setup documentation — complete enough that someone else can run the job.
• Program revision control — the machine always has the right version.
• AE collaboration — toolpath feedback that shapes the process spec over time.

Compensation

The Base Hourly Range for this position is $45/hr - $55/hr. Actual rate will vary based on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of Boom’s total rewards package for employees. Other rewards may include long-term incentives/equity, a flexible PTO policy, and many other progressive benefits.
