Job summary

University of Texas at Austin seeks an experienced machinist for the ARL Machine Shop to operate Hurco CNC milling machines and maintain tight tolerances across diverse materials. You will design tools and fixtures for CNC milling/turning, read 3D CAD models, and pursue process improvements in a high-precision shop.

Qualifications include HS or GED and 7+ years of related experience with Hurco machines; MasterCam proficiency is preferred.

Qualifications

HS or GED.
Seven or more years of related experience including extensive experience measuring and maintaining tight tolerance components in a wide variety of materials using multiple machine types and tooling.
Ability to design and fabricate custom cutting tools for CNC Machine operations.
Ability to design and fabricate custom fixturing for both CNC milling and turning operations.
Demonstrated eagerness to develop skills in mathematical, mechanical, and computer-based applications for machining.
Extensive experience with CNC Milling Machines, Hurco brand preferred.
Mastery level knowledge and implementation of CAD/CAM programming and design with preference towards MasterCam Mill/Lathe/Wire.
Ability work independently and manage multiple tasks.
Proficiency in reading and interpreting 3D CAD models, geometric dimensioning, tolerancing.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Evidence of skills in: working with new technologies, being highly organized, planning and coordinating multiple tasks, effective time management, attention to detail, problem solving, and maintaining professional demeanor.

Responsibilities

Efficiently and error-free operation of Hurco CNC Milling Machines.
Measure, adjust and maintain close tolerance components using supporting machining processes such as surface grinding, Manual Turning, and Manual Milling.
Demonstrate mastery of tooling selection and operation for materials such as Nickel Based Super Alloys, high-performance Polymers, and Tool Steels.
Preventative diagnosis and replacement of routine wear items to ensure machine integrity.
Proactively participate in improvement and innovation of machining processes.
Other related functions as assigned
