Job summary

First Student, Inc. seeks a Lead Cybersecurity Engineer to design, implement, and operate controls across cloud, endpoint, and identity environments. This senior IC leads cybersecurity projects, drives detection and response, and partners with I&O, Data, and Applications teams.

This hands-on role requires mentoring, technical oversight, and end-to-end project leadership within cybersecurity, including SAST/DAST, IaC reviews, and MDR collaboration.

Qualifications

• Minimum 10+ years in IT with 5+ years hands-on cybersecurity engineering, cloud, or DevOps.
• Proven AWS security design experience across governance, IAM, and cloud controls.
• Experience with managed MDR services and incident investigations.
• Hands-on SDLC security with SAST/DAST tooling and secure design reviews.

Responsibilities

• Identify and assess new platforms, cloud services, identity changes, and externally-facing systems.
• Lead offensive-informed assessments and translate findings into remediation plans.
• Perform threat modeling for cloud and SDLC initiatives.
• Engineer and lead operations of cybersecurity controls and cloud security posture management.
• Code-review IaC for cloud governance components and policy management.
• Provide SDLC cybersecurity support including SAST/DAST program operation.
• Own integration of First Student systems with MDR platform and tune detections with the provider.
• Maintain dashboards and telemetry for leadership reporting.
• Lead incidents as senior technical lead and coordinate containment across identity, endpoint, cloud, and email.
• Develop IR runbooks and playbooks; drive lessons learned and improvements.
• Contribute to policies and risk reporting with technical evidence.
