Job summary

66degrees is seeking a hands-on Cloud Engineer with strong Google Cloud experience to migrate enterprise apps and infrastructure from on-premises to GCP. You will build cloud infrastructure, automate deployments, configure networking and security, and support Windows-based workloads.

This remote role (United States) is a 26-week contract. You will work with Cloud Architects and application teams to deliver reliable, secure environments and guide cutover activities during migration.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in cloud infrastructure or platform engineering with hands-on GCP experience.

Responsibilities

• Build and manage GCP infrastructure using Terraform (projects, VPCs, subnets, firewall rules, Compute Engine, storage, IAM).
• Deploy Windows Server VMs, IIS-hosted apps and supporting infra.
• Automate Windows server config, OS hardening, and IIS setup with Ansible.
• Configure GCP networking (Cloud NAT, Load Balancing, Cloud Armor) and on-prem connectivity.
• Maintain CI/CD pipelines and deployments using Octopus Deploy.
• Support migration of enterprise apps, Windows services, and SQL Server to Google Compute Engine.
• Troubleshoot connectivity, DNS, firewalls, and external integrations.
• Migrate caching/messaging (Redis, RabbitMQ, MSMQ).
• Implement cloud security: IAM, Cloud KMS, encryption, VPC Service Controls.
• Configure monitoring with GCP tools and Datadog.

Overview of Role

We're looking for a hands-on Cloud Engineer with strong Google Cloud experience to help migrate enterprise applications and infrastructure from on-premises environments to GCP.This role involves building cloud infrastructure, automating deployments, configuring networking and security, and supporting the migration of Windows-based applications and supporting services.
You'll work closely with Cloud Architects, Data Architects, and application teams to build reliable, secure, and repeatable cloud environments.
We're looking for someone who enjoys hands-on engineering, can troubleshoot independently, and is comfortable working through the challenges of migrating existing enterprise workloads.

Location: Remote - United States
Employment Type: Contract for 26 weeks.

• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines, including application deployments using Octopus Deploy.
• Support the migration of enterprise applications, Windows services, and SQL Server infrastructure to Google Compute Engine.
• Configure and troubleshoot application connectivity, DNS, firewall rules, and external integrations.
• Help migrate caching and messaging infrastructure, including Redis, RabbitMQ, and MSMQ.
• Implement cloud security controls, including IAM, Cloud KMS, encryption, and VPC Service Controls where required.
• Configure monitoring and logging using GCP-native tools and Datadog.
• Work with architects and application teams to troubleshoot migration issues, validate infrastructure, and support cutover activities.
• Document infrastructure configurations, deployment procedures, and operational handover details.

Qualifications

Experience: 5+ years in cloud infrastructure or platform engineering, including hands-on GCP experience

• 5+ years of experience in cloud infrastructure, DevOps, or platform engineering.
• Strong hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform, particularly Compute Engine, VPC networking, IAM, Cloud Storage, Cloud NAT, and Cloud Load Balancing.
• Strong Terraform experience, including writing reusable modules and managing infrastructure deployments.
• Experience managing Windows Server environments, particularly Windows Server 2019/2022 and IIS.
• Experience with Ansible or similar configuration management tools.
• Good understanding of networking concepts, including DNS, routing, firewalls, VPNs, load balancing, and hybrid connectivity.
• Experience building or maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience migrating applications or infrastructure from on-premises environments to the cloud.
• Strong troubleshooting skills across infrastructure, networking, and application connectivity.
• Comfortable working directly with architects, application engineers, and client technical teams

Nice to have:

• Experience with Octopus Deploy.
• Experience migrating IIS applications to GCP.
• Familiarity with SQL Server infrastructure hosted on Compute Engine.
• Experience with Redis, RabbitMQ, or MSMQ.
• Experience with Google Cloud Memorystore.
• Familiarity with Cloud Armor, VPC Service Controls, and Cloud KMS.
