Job summary

Nelnet is seeking an IT Cloud Software Architect to drive enterprise cloud strategy and design scalable, secure cloud-native applications across the portfolio. You will mentor engineers, guide DevOps and security practices, and engage with clients to translate requirements into robust cloud solutions.

The role includes 10–25% pre-sales support, architecture workshops, and governance with a focus on AI/ML integration and emerging technologies to keep Nelnet at the forefront of innovation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
• 10+ years in software engineering with at least 5+ years in cloud architecture or solution architecture.
• Expertise in cloud-native application development on a major cloud platform: GCP, AWS, or Azure.
• Strong proficiency in Node, Angular, C#, and Python.
• Experience designing and scaling microservices, APIs, serverless, and containerized workloads (GKE, Cloud Run, Cloud Functions, Kubernetes, ECS, Lambda).
• Familiarity with AI/ML services and integration (Google Vertex AI, Gemini, AWS SageMaker, Azure ML, OpenAI, etc.).
• Proven experience engaging with business and client stakeholders at multiple levels.
• Excellent communication skills to explain complex concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.

Responsibilities

• Lead design of scalable, secure cloud-native applications.
• Define patterns for microservices, APIs, containers, and serverless.
• Engage with clients to gather requirements and present design options.
• Provide technical leadership and mentor engineering teams.
• Stay ahead of cloud and AI/ML innovations and pilot new tools.
• Ensure governance, security, and compliance across solutions.
