Akron Children’s is seeking a Senior Clinical Nurse Manager to oversee daily operations in high‑complexity units. You will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care to create safe, engaging environments and advance professional development.

The role carries 24‑hour accountability for direct care units and links administrative strategy to patient care. The position requires BSN, RN licensure in Ohio, BLS certification, and 5+ years nursing with 3+ years supervisory experience.

Qualifications

• Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing; BSN required; MSN or other relevant degree within 3 years of hire.
• Ohio RN license required.
• Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association; unit-specific certifications may be required (PALS/ACLS/TNCC/NRP).
• Minimum 5 years nursing experience; minimum 3 years supervisory experience preferred.
• PEARS required if assigned to general care units.

Responsibilities

• Manage the unit's financial operations, ensuring effective budget oversight and revenue generation.
• Oversee HR activities including hiring, firing, coaching and performance management for staff.
• Drive performance improvement initiatives focused on metrics, quality assurance, patient safety, and regulatory compliance.
• Ensure integration and use of technology in patient care and nursing practices.
• Lead strategic initiatives, facilitating change management and collaboration to align unit objectives with organizational goals.
• Develop and implement performance management, staff development, and retention strategies.
• Cultivate relationships and influence behaviors by promoting professional development and diversity in staffing.
• Demonstrate personal and professional accountability in all responsibilities.

Critical Care or ED experience required; transport experience preferred. The Senior Clinical Nurse Manager oversees daily operations in high‑complexity units, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams. This role involves assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care delivery to create safe and supportive environments that enhance patient engagement. The Senior Clinical Nurse Manager fosters a professional culture where team members work together to achieve optimal patient outcomes and advance their professional development. As a nurse leader, this position carries 24‑hour accountability for direct care units and serves as a crucial link between administrative strategies and patient care.

Work Schedule

Full Time. Days: 8am‑4pm, 40 hours per week.

Qualifications

• Education: Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing; BSN required; MSN or other relevant degree within 3 years of hire.
• Licensure: Registered Nurse license in the State of Ohio required.
• Certification: Current Health Care Provider BLS training from the American Heart Association required. (Additional certifications required depending on unit: PALS, ACLS, TNCC, NRP for critical care; PALS, ACLS, TNCC, and/or NRP for ED and transport within 1 year of hire).
• Experience: Minimum 5 years nursing experience required; Minimum 3 years supervisory experience preferred.
• If assigned to general care units, PEARS required.
• Relevant professional nursing certifications are preferred.

Technical Expertise

• Experience working with all levels within an organization is required.
• Strong leadership skills including communication, organizational skills, time management, coping skills, motivation, problem solving, autonomy, and support for the team are required.
• Proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) or similar software is required. Budgeting and electronic documentation skills are also required.
