Job summary

Seattle Children's is seeking an experienced Medical Laboratory Scientist for Clinical & Molecular Microbiology. The role performs high-complexity diagnostics, culture-based identification, antimicrobial susceptibility testing, molecular diagnostics, and sequencing for complex organisms, while handling specimen processing, QC, instrument maintenance and troubleshooting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Eligibility for Certification by an agency approved by the U.S. Dept. of Education or a National Commission for Health Certifying Agencies (NCHCA). Common credentials are ASCP, NCA or AMT.
• State Certifications are also acceptable and must be obtained within six months of hire.
• Records of diploma/transcript must be on file for CAP/ CMS requirements.

Responsibilities

• Perform high- to moderate-complexity clinical laboratory tests in assigned departments to provide physicians with rapid, accurate results.
• Duties include culture-based organism identification and antimicrobial susceptibility testing, plus molecular diagnostics and sequencing.
• Oversee specimen processing, result verification, quality control, instrument maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Ensure compliance with CAP/CLIA and regulatory standards and participate in cross-coverage as needed.
