Job summary

Johnson & Johnson's DePuy Synthes Orthopaedics unit is seeking a Sr Principal Clinical Engineer to shape surgical workflow strategies across preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative care. You will translate clinical and operational needs into integrated requirements guiding implant, instrument, and digital technologies.

Based in the U.S. with roles in Massachusetts and IN, you will lead cross-functional teams, evaluate usability, and help deliver clinically meaningful, economically

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field; advanced degree preferred.
• Minimum 8 years in medical device, orthopaedics, or related health care tech.
• Experience with medical device development and design controls.
• Strong communication, facilitation, and stakeholder alignment skills.
• Familiarity with CAD/3D visualization tools and rapid prototyping.

Responsibilities

• Define end-to-end procedural workflows for preoperative planning, intraoperative execution, and postoperative follow-up including implants and instruments.
• Translate surgeon, care team, patient, health system, commercial, clinical, operational, economic, usability needs into procedural requirements.
• Map current- and future-state workflows to identify unmet needs, adoption barriers, usability challenges, and opportunities for differentiation.
• Partner with R&D, clinical, medical education, regulatory, quality, marketing, and external clinical stakeholders to align workflow priorities.
• Evaluate concepts for usability, workflow fit, clinical relevance, adoption risk, and end-user value.
• Translate procedural needs into requirements, recommendations, and development guidance.
