Job summary

SCI Summit Consulting, LLC is seeking an experienced claims professional to manage highly complex property and casualty claims. This field role in Maryland requires leadership in investigations, coverage analysis, and settlements within authority limits.

The candidate will communicate complex coverage details to insureds and partners, authorize payments, and mentor staff as needed. Advanced analytics, negotiation skills, and discretion are essential for success in this role.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Risk Management and Insurance, Finance or related field or equivalent experience.
• Pro/continued progress toward a professional designation such as Associate in Claims (AIC).
• Excellent analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Manages a large inventory of highly complex claims to evaluate compensability and liability.
• Leads comprehensive claims investigations to determine coverage and liability.
• Analyzes and negotiates settlements and reserves within authority; may attend arbitrations or trials.
• Communicates complex information regarding coverage and settlements to insureds, claimants, and partners.
• Authorizes payments within assigned authority and ensures timely disbursement.
• Maintains detailed claim files and related correspondence.

Education

Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Risk Management and Insurance, Finance, or related field

Professional designation (AIC) preferred

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

• Manages a large inventory of highly complex claims to evaluate compensability/liability.
• Strategically orchestrates and leads comprehensive claims investigations to confirm coverage and to determine liability, compensability and damages.
• Analyzes and negotiates appropriate claim settlements/reserves within prescribed authority. May attend arbitrations, mediations, depositions, or trials.
• Conveys highly complex information regarding coverage and settlements to insureds, claimants, and external partners.
• Authorizes payments in accordance with assigned authority limit, ensuring timely disbursement.
• Maintains accurate and detailed claim files, including all correspondence, reports, and settlement agreements.
• May have responsibility for performance and coaching of staff and may have a participatory role in decisions regarding talent selection, development, and performance management for direct reports.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• This is a field position in Maryland.

Job Requirements

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Risk Management and Insurance, Finance, or a related field or equivalent experience.

Experience: Generally, a minimum of 13 years of experience in property and casualty claims handling. Completion of or continuing progress toward a professional designation preferred, such as Associate in Claims (AIC).

Scope of Job/Qualifications: Works at the highest authority limits on assignments of the highest technical complexity and coordination. Excellent analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills. Demonstrates expert knowledge of insurance policies, coverage, and claims handling procedures. Maintains and leverages knowledge of industry laws and regulations. Advanced ability to organize and prioritize caseloads, ensuring timely resolution of claims. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build relationships and lead negotiations. Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion. Recognized as a subject matter expert within the company, potentially operating at a peer level to management.
