Job summary

The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) is seeking an insurance claim processor to assure accurate and timely processing of claims. Under general supervision, you will resolve edits, denials, and paper claims for submittal, and perform follow-up using payer sites and electronic billing systems.

This role supports MCP - Revenue Cycle in Columbia, SC. Candidates should have an associate degree (preferred) with 2 years billing and follow up or 4 years in a hospital/physician setting;

Qualifications

• Requires knowledge of insurance terminology, CPT coding, and billing rules.
• Requires 2 years billing/insurance follow-up or 4 years in hospital/physician office setting.
• Thorough working knowledge of insurance terminology, CPT coding and billing rules.

Responsibilities

• Account maintenance: updating registration and resolving authorization issues, processing adjustments and denials per payer rules.
• Follow up on denied/unpaid claims and no-response claims using payer websites and electronic billing systems.
• Research accounts and gather information from patients or departments to resolve issues.
• Escalate slow-pay issues to management and keep leadership informed of trends.
