Description
We are seeking a Senior Civil/Structural Engineer to join our team. This role works in a schedule‑driven, collaborative environment, partnering with clients and reporting to the Civil/Structural Team Lead. Our team applies expertise in seismic design, building codes, and constructability to deliver practical, resilient, and cost‑effective solutions. The engineer will lead projects including industrial infrastructure, site development, seismic retrofits, equipment foundations and facility upgrades across a range of industries. Responsibilities include participating in project meetings, model reviews, coordinating across disciplines and providing technical direction and supervision to other engineers and designers while ensuring high‑quality deliverables.
Compensation
Estimated annual salary $120,000 – $149,000 (varying by location, skills, experience, qualifications and internal equity).
Work Arrangement
Position can be based in Ferndale, WA, Billings, MT or within 50 miles of Salt Lake City, UT for remote work. Expect office presence 3 days a week (Tues–Thurs) with optional remote work on other days.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform structural analysis and design for industrial steel and concrete structures, buildings, equipment foundations, and miscellaneous infrastructure systems.
- Develop detailed structural calculations and engineering analysis.
- Support seismic evaluations and rehabilitation of existing structures.
- Prepare and review construction documents including drawings and specifications.
- Perform site civil engineering tasks: grading, drainage, stormwater management, and earthwork coordination.
- Participate in building code analysis, structural investigations, and constructability reviews.
- Coordinate closely with BIM/CAD designers and multi‑discipline teams to deliver fully integrated designs.
- Review and check design deliverables for technical accuracy.
- Develop scope and create technical specifications for civil/structural systems and modifications.
- Deliver high‑quality, accurate work while meeting project schedules and quality expectations.
- Respond to construction RFIs and support field activities as required.
- Ensure compliance with applicable building codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Perform work independently; provide oversight and technical direction to other engineers and designers.
- Lead civil/structural scope on projects: planning, coordination, technical execution, delivery of work to budget and schedule.
- Attend and participate in client and project team meetings, including site visits as required.
- Demonstrate awareness and commitment to health, safety, and environmental issues to ensure zero harm on all projects.
Job Requirements
- Education: Bachelor of Science and/or Master’s in Civil or Structural Engineering (ABET accredited preferred).
- Experience: Minimum 10+ years in Civil/Structural Engineering, including leading projects and supervising staff.
- Location: 3 days onsite in Ferndale, WA or Billings, MT; remaining days remote (option to work from home Mon and Fri). Remote candidates within 50 miles of Salt Lake City, UT also considered.
- Skills:
- Strong written and verbal communication.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and document marking tools (e.g., Bluebeam).
- Coordination with clients, vendors, and multi‑discipline teams.
- Ability to leverage AI tools responsibly in engineering workflows.
- Technical Competence:
- Preparing and reviewing construction documents.
- Structural analysis and design for new building systems.
- Seismic evaluations and retrofit design.
- Developing structural calculations and technical reports.
- Coordinating with BIM/CAD design teams.
- Familiarity with building codes, seismic standards, and industry design practices.
- Certifications: PE license required; ability to obtain licensure in Washington if not currently licensed there.
- Travel: Local client visits at least once per week; outside area travel minimal (<10%).
- Industry Requirements: Required trainings and certifications (HHFT Safety, Client Safety, TWIC, background screening, drug and alcohol programs) at time of hire.
Preferred Skills/Experience
- Experience executing projects in a refinery environment.
- PE license in Washington or ability to obtain one.
Work Environment And Physical Demands
- Stand, walk, sit, reach, climb, balance, kneel, talk and hear regularly; occasional lifting up to 25 lbs.
- Visual demands: close, distance, depth perception and focus.
- Overtime may be necessary due to workload, including weekdays and weekends.
- Jobs conducted at client sites, production facilities, or industrial/construction sites.
- Follow client site‑based rules and protocols regarding infectious diseases.
