Burns & McDonnell in Austin, TX is seeking an experienced Senior Civil Engineer to lead roadway design, mentor engineers, and deliver transportation projects within our growing local team. You will guide design teams from concept through construction, balancing technical excellence with client needs.

The role emphasizes leadership across multidisciplinary groups, adherence to TxDOT standards, and the ability to manage schedules, budgets, and change orders while driving quality reviews and staff

Formación

• Bachelor’s degree in civil or related engineering technology from ABET-accredited program.
• Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) is required.
• 10+ years of experience in civil roadway transportation.
• Experience leading design discipline for large projects and delegating tasks.
• Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
• Knowledge of transportation engineering methodologies and TxDOT standards.
• Proficiency with OpenRoads/Autocad Civil 3D, Excel and Word.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Civil Engineer who is looking to…

• Lead transportation design and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to design roadway transportation projects.
• Coordinate with project managers and discipline leads to establish priorities, delegate work, and manage design schedules and deliverables.
• Bring outstanding creative, technical and interpersonal skills to lead teams through challenging designs and schedules, taking pride in a job well done and the people you mentor along the way.
• Communicate clearly with clients and stakeholders, translating complex concepts and inspiring enthusiasm for the important work we deliver to our communities.
• Assist team leaders and PM’s with various project duties when support is needed.
• Participate in the development of project fees, schedules, scopes, budgets, staff planning and construction planning. Responsible for the effective management of change orders.
• Mentor engineers and designers through technical guidance, constructive feedback, and opportunities to take on greater responsibility.
• Perform quality reviews for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil or related engineering technology from an ABET-accredited program.
• Minimum 10 years of experience; experience working in the related civil roadway transportation industry preferred.
• Candidate must be a licensed Professional Engineer (PE).
• Experience in the development of contract documents related to drawings and specifications.
• Experience with leading the design discipline for large projects and delegating work tasks to team members. Ability to lead the execution of work and resolve issues in a team environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
• Ability to perform under pressure and tight deadlines while working on multiple projects concurrently.
• Knowledge of transportation engineering methodologies and standards including but not limited to the TxDOT Roadway Design Manual and the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, etc.
• Proficient in OpenRoads Designer and/or Autocad Civil 3D design software, Excel, and Word.
• Experience working with local governments, agencies, DOTs, and private-sector clients.
• Ability to perform quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and specifications.
• Ability to travel.
