Job summary

BL Companies is seeking a Senior Technical Civil Engineer in Charlotte, NC with 8+ years of land development experience to lead design and production of civil engineering plans. The role requires a civil engineering degree and ideally a North Carolina PE license, with emphasis on site layout, grading, stormwater, and erosion control.

The senior engineer will oversee construction quality, mentor junior staff, and coordinate utility design including trenchless technologies.

Qualifications

8+ years of civil or utility‑related engineering experience.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Preferably a PE license in North Carolina.
Strong background in site layout, grading, stormwater, and erosion control design.
Experience with civil‑related utility design and trenchless technology.
Ability to mentor and develop junior engineers.

Responsibilities

Develop and manage site layouts, grading plans, and earthwork calculations.
Design and permit stormwater management and erosion and sedimentation control systems.
Prepare and submit local land development permits, ensuring regulatory compliance.
Oversee quality assurance throughout project development and delivery.
Provide mentorship and development to junior staff.
Design utility systems, including trenchless technologies, and resolve field issues.
Apply geotechnical knowledge to inform project designs.
Write specifications and prepare bid documents.
