Job summary

AKRF is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer for our Water Resources group in the Philadelphia, PA office. You will lead major design projects, coordinate with clients and consultants, and mentor staff engineers to deliver high-quality civil/site solutions.

The role emphasizes project management, hydrologic/hydraulic analysis, and collaborative work across municipal and private sector clients, with opportunities for growth and leadership within AKRF.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • P.E. license (or ability to obtain within 1 year).
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD/Civil 3D is essential.
  • Proficiency in hydrologic/hydraulic analysis and modeling recommended.
  • Experience with municipal/regulatory standards preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide project and technical management of major engineering design projects including site layout, grading, drainage, and storm sewer systems.
  • Lead or support preparation of drawings, specifications, reports, permit packages, and construction documents.
  • Coordinate with clients and design consultants and manage project budgets and schedules.
  • Mentor staff engineers and contribute to proposals and fee development.

About The Role

The Water Resources group at AKRF is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer to be based out of the Philadelphia, PA office. This individual will serve a key function in the design and management of a broad range of projects for both our municipal and private sector clients. The candidate will have the opportunity to work in an environment of encouragement and collaboration to help AKRF shape the future of the region.

Job Responsibilities
  • Provide project and technical management of major engineering design projects including site layout, grading, drainage/storm sewer systems, stormwater management, erosion & sediment pollution control, traffic control, and related supporting disciplines.
  • Lead/support tasks including preparation of site/civil engineering drawings, specifications and reports for projects.
  • Lead/support tasks including preparation of permit packages and municipal land development applications for projects.
  • Lead/support tasks including preparation of construction documents and bid documents.
  • Lead/support construction administration tasks including answering RFIs and submittals, reviewing shop drawings, reviewing pay applications, preparing site observation reports, preparing punchlists, and other related construction tasks.
  • Lead/support project management responsibilities including managing discrete technical tasks, project schedule, and task budgets.
  • Day-to-day project communication and coordination with clients and other design consultants.
  • Assist in proposal writing and fee development.
  • Provide direction, delegation, mentoring, and training to staff engineers.
Essential Requirements
  • 5-8 years of experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Science or a related discipline
  • Pennsylvania and New Jersey P.E. or the ability to obtain within 1 year of employment
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD/Civil 3D is essential
  • Proficiency in hydrologic and hydraulic analysis/modeling is essential including HydroCAD, HydraFlow, or similar. Proficiency with HEC-RAS, PCSWMM, and Stormsewers is a plus.
  • Experience with municipal ordinances, PennDOT standards, PADEP standards, and Pennsylvania regulatory agency guidelines preferred
  • Experience with NJDEP standards, and New Jersey regulatory agency guidelines preferred
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite including Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign is a plus.
  • Experience integrating geospatial data/GIS in the infrastructure planning and design workflow is a plus.
  • Ability to manage and meet multiple deadlines
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Superior attention to detail and organizational ability
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
