Job summary

Toole Design is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer in Boston, MA to lead high‑visibility transportation projects from concept through construction with a focus on multimodal safety and capacity improvements.

You will mentor staff, lead client meetings, and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams while growing the firm’s Massachusetts and Northeast presence. An active MA PE license or ability to obtain within six months is required.

Qualifications

• Massachusetts PE license or ability to obtain within six months.
• 10+ years of complex transportation and project management experience.
• Proven leadership of multi-discipline infrastructure design and construction teams.
• Strong networks and relationships in the New England transportation market.
• Experience in multimodal transportation and roadway design and comfort with client interviews.

What You'll Do

As a Senior Civil Engineer at Toole Design, you'll lead the design and delivery of highly visible transportation projects. You'll guide civil design teams on temporary and permanent safety improvement projects to multimodal capacity expansion projects with innovative intersection treatments to major capital projects -collaborating with clients and interdisciplinary teams from concept through construction. Along the way, you'll mentor junior staff, lead client meetings, and turn complex challenges into creative, buildable solutions. You'll also support business development across Massachusetts and the Northeast, growing as a trusted expert in a company that promotes from within.

What You Bring:

• Massachusetts Professional Engineering (P.E.) license or ability to obtain within six months
• 10+ years of complex transportation and project management experience
• Proven leadership of multi-discipline infrastructure design and construction teams
• Strong networks and relationships in the New England transportation market, including existing clients with the DOT, municipalities, and other consulting firms
• It would be a plus if you have design and project management experience in both multimodal transportation and roadway design projects, and you are comfortable presenting on projects and in pursuit interviews.
