Marion County Public Defender Agency is seeking an attorney to provide effective, client-centered representation of indigent parents in CHINS and TPR matters filed by the Indiana Department of Child Services in Marion County. Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate with license to practice law required.
• Two years of experience in CHINS/TPR work with trial experience preferred.
• Strong verbal, written, interpersonal and presentation skills are essential.

Responsibilities

• Appears frequently in court to advocate for parents in CHINS and TPR cases, including pre-trial advocacy, bench trials, and post-adjudication advocacy.
• Interviews clients, service providers, witnesses; evaluates legal and factual strength of CHINS/TPR cases.
• Negotiates with the Department of Child Services and advocates for parents with service providers to achieve client objectives.
• Maintains confidentiality at all times.
• Collaborates with social workers on multi-disciplinary strategies to achieve client’s objectives.
