The California Department of Social Services (CDSS) Legal Division is recruiting for one permanent, full-time Attorney III position in its Children's and Community Care Licensing Policy Branch (CAL), Children's Oversight Bureau (CAL Children's). Attorneys in CAL provide critical legal services to the CDSS in its mission to serve, protect, and support the people of California.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of state and federal child welfare laws and policies.
  • Ability to conduct legal research and prepare opinions.
  • Experience drafting and reviewing regulations and contractual scopes of work.
  • Understanding of public records acts and writs/appeals is a plus.
  • Ability to provide litigation support to the Office of the Attorney General.

Responsibilities

  • Provide legal policy support to CFSD on child welfare areas.
  • Conduct research and prepare legal opinions.
  • Draft and review regulations and legislative proposals.
  • Provide litigation support to the Attorney General's Office as needed.
  • Prepare pleadings and represent the Department before administrative hearings and appeals.
