Job summary

The American Society of Civil Engineers is seeking a Chief Engineer to oversee all construction engineering activities for the organization, including planning, design, review, and approval of temporary works for heavy highway projects such as bridges and roadways.

The role provides technical leadership, ensures regulatory compliance, signs and seals plans after transition, and mentors staff while serving as the primary liaison to owners, agencies, and design partners.

Qualifications

  • BS in Civil Engineering with emphasis in steel/concrete design and geotechnical engineering.
  • PE license required for position.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in construction, preferably heavy highway or transportation infrastructure.
  • Experience with DOT or Pennsylvania Turnpike projects preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the senior engineering authority for planning and designing temporary works for heavy highway construction (bridges, roadways).
  • Lead, review, and approve engineering strategies for temporary works (cofferdams, forms, shoring, demolition sequencing).
  • Provide practical guidance to field personnel to ensure engineered plans are built safely and correctly.
  • Establish and enforce engineering standards, procedures, and quality control across projects.
