Job summary

JLL is seeking a Senior Chief Engineer to lead facilities operations and engineering services at Tennessee State University in Nashville. You will oversee daily operation, maintenance, and performance of campus building systems, ensuring safety, efficiency and reliability for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

Qualifications

  • 7–10 years of progressive experience in facilities management, engineering, or building operations.
  • At least 5 years of supervisory or management experience leading engineering or maintenance teams.
  • Valid Chief Engineer license or equivalent stationary engineer certification required, or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe.
  • Strong technical knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and building automation systems.
  • Experience using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations, building codes, and environmental compliance requirements.
  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and oversee the operation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and building automation systems across campus facilities
  • Develop and implement preventive and predictive maintenance programs to improve equipment reliability and operational efficiency
  • Supervise, mentor, and support a team of engineers, technicians, and maintenance staff while promoting a culture of safety and accountability
  • Manage energy management initiatives and identify opportunities for sustainability improvements and cost savings
  • Coordinate and oversee renovation, construction, and capital improvement projects to ensure quality execution and timely completion
  • Prepare and manage operating and capital budgets, maintenance schedules, and operational reports
  • Serve as the primary liaison between JLL and university stakeholders, responding to facility concerns and supporting emergency response activities as needed

What this job involves: JLL is seeking an experienced Senior Chief Engineer to lead facilities operations and engineering services at Tennessee State University. This role is responsible for overseeing the daily operation, maintenance, and performance of campus building systems and infrastructure to support a safe, efficient, and reliable environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. The Senior Chief Engineer will lead a team of engineering and maintenance professionals, manage critical building systems, support capital projects, and partner closely with university leadership to ensure operational excellence and customer satisfaction.

What your day-to-day will look like:
  • Direct and oversee the operation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and building automation systems across campus facilities

Required Qualifications:

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related technical field
  • Experience supporting higher education, government, healthcare, or large institutional facilities environments
  • Professional certifications such as Certified Facility Manager (CFM), Certified Plant Engineer (CPE), or similar credentials
  • Knowledge of energy management principles and sustainability best practices
  • Experience managing multi-building campuses or complex facility portfolios
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced operational environment
  • Customer service mindset with strong relationship management skills

Location: Nashville, Tennessee

Work Shift: Monday through Friday 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM
